Question Topview: Trouble with the front area

Is this by design or I need to recalibrate the alignment of the cameras?

That's the way its designed. There's no camera in the front, so you'll get warnings from the front sensors but no view. The cameras are on the bottom of each side mirror and on the rear license plate frame.

I think that the front end of the car is not aligned with the image: where the center image shows the end of the front bumper, I can see the front wheel when it is turned to the maximum angle.

Not in my experience. Judge the front more by the image of the car and the proximity sensor. The live image of the wheel through the fish eye lens and the prepared image of the car don't match up entirely. The fisheye seems to put things in their most accurate position when they're on the ground (paint lines, etc) or fairly short like curbs. Taller stuff starts to warp around a bit.

You're seeing the driver's front tire through the fisheye lense in the driver's door mirror. The distortion is the nature of the beast.

Nissan/Infiniti was the first I believe to put this technology ("all around view") on their production cars. I believe they may have also pioneered and sold the technology to other manufacturers if I am not mistaken. That being said Infiniti includes a front camera as does Lexus...Why BMW failed to offer a camera for the front is anybody's guess. My former 2011 QX56 had the feature and there is a noticeable difference without the front camera

If that's the case why offer cameras at all, seeing as there are side windows and rear glass?

Bottom line is BMW somewhat half-stepped on this technology IMHO..

I wouldn't mind having a camera up front, either. It isn't as important to me as the others due to the greater visibility up front, but it would be nice to have a better view there for places like parking garages.

I concur - most helpful in garages/structures and tight spaces

Tested... line on the ground perfectly matches the line of the front bumper in the center image, but seems like if the object is higher it is not covered with the camera:
