21” Winter OEM Size UK setup

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
The fonts arrived yesterday from Germany and the rears will be with me on Monday. The TS860s looks great but you forget how big 21” tyres are off the wheels.

Getting them fitted on Monday so will report back thereafter on grip, feel and non run flat impacts

Nice one.

Yes, they are big! Loading up my 21"s after fitting the 19" winters, VERY noticeable.

The TS-860's are RFT, so not sure what your last comment means

Or are the 21" versions not RFT?

😬

Realised that after posting. Interesting what you think of ride of non RFT's. Should be much better, but to be fair I am not noticing a huge amount (a bit) between 19" and 21" RFT's

Looking at a review where an X3 owner went from 21” summer RFT to 20 Winter NON RFT, I don’t expect much difference with the adaptive suspension.

Interested to hear how you get on with those - although I've already fitted 19" wheels and TS860S runflats.

I've had them on for a week now and I can definitely feel the difference vs my 21's.
Pros - rides smooth and don't feel potholes/uneven roads as much.
Cons - I can feel more lean through corners/bends when going fast. I kind of expected this due to the taller side wall.

Yep happy to post my thoughts. It was by far the cheapest route at £950 and retains the nice look of the 21” wheels with superb winter grip. I leave my adaptive suspension in comfort 90% of the time and find no issues with ride comfort.

I am trying mine in adaptive mode by default

Jeez mate, you need to let the tyres wear in a little before booting it 😂 But would undoubtedly lean more due to high sidewalls

Rears arrived today from Germany all 4 being fitted tomorrow. UK temps forecast to be below 3 degrees for the next week in the morning and late evening so good timing.

Tyres fitted and the difference in ride and tyre noise is noticeable, suspect mostly due to softer rubber and deeper tread. They did mention the front winter tyres were AO so engineered for Audi’s but not a problem to be fitted to non Audi cars.

Summer tyres had 4.8mm front and 4.4mm rear after 8000 miles

Not trying hard enough.

Think you are running 20” Pirelli’s which I think are harder compound ?

Out of interest (apologies if this has been covered) - would you consider leaving these tyres on all year round?

Some reviews of all season tyres say how good they are all year round, not just for winter!

Good news! My 21" Alenza's have about 6mm after almost 4K, so probably similar wear

I was thinking the same thing but I think these tyres are full winters so would no doubt struggle in the summer heat with grip, stability and life.

The Bridgestone Alezna only starts with 7.1mm from new.

Just checked them again as a bit rushed this morning and was cold.

Rears 4.8mm
Fronts 5.2mm

This is after 8000 miles so not too bad

250 miles on them now and very impressed with the ride and low noise of this high performance Winter tyre. I Would definitely recommend them for UK owners with 21” wheels.
