Question Sending Google Map destination to car

Forgive me if this has been discussed in a previous thread. I've tried twice to send a Google Maps destination to my car, following the instructions that the BMW Assist representative gave me.... nada. I have received no Messages in the car. I was told to use the email address that I gave to BMW Assist (which is my personal email address).

Anyone having similar problems? I tried using all upper and then all lower case (BMW Assist guy said use all upper because it "seems to work better"), but neither worked.

I am not sure, but I think that you need a .bmw email address to be able to send googlemaps directions to your car. I don't think a personal (non bmw) email address would work.

Mine is working fine with a non BMW address. Same email I use in the bmwusa website and with BMW assist.

Anything I might be doing wrong? Tried first while my car was garaged and waited till the next morning to check for the message. Then tried from work while parked in the parking lot... failed both times.

Do you have multiple profiles? Can't remember if they go to a specific profile.

Are you getting a 'Message successfully sent' message via Google Maps when you click send to car?

We certainly use the email addr we used to sign up for BMW Assist and it does work. Might want to contact BMW Assist via the in car button. I bet they can look at your car's mailbox and see if the email is even making it to Assist.

Not sure about profiles - I haven't set any up or imported any. Hopefully it's not key dependent thing, that wouldn't make sense. I do get the "message successfully sent to car" message on Google Maps.

Agree - next step is to contact BMW Assist and say something along the lines of "WTF?"

Call BMW Assist and make sure they have your correct email address. It took me 3 phone calls to them to figure out that they'd completely butchered the email address I gave them.

You mentioned your car is in the garage; mine sits in an underground garage with no service, you should still get the message within a few minutes of going outside.

If it says "message successfully sent to car" it is going to someone's car You don't need the full email in the UK. Just the username. If you log into connecteddrive or the US BMW Assist website with the same user name you should see your car is linked to this user name. If you don't, that could be why you're not getting the messages. If you do, you'll have to call them

No idea other than a typo in the email address. By the way, the message gets to the car in a matter of seconds and it's not profile dependent. I have sent addresses to my wife as she's driving and it worked well.

I doubt that Google waits for delivery confirmation. It probably just checks the syntax to ensure it is a valid email address format and then displays the success message.

I'll call them today. I'm sure they screwed up the email address or something. Boneheads.

Just called BMW Assist. My email address is linked to both the X3 and the X5 so maybe that is the problem - even though the X5 doesn't have MyInfo... although they claim it does. She did a reset and I'll try it again. I might wind up having to change one of the email addresses if the probelm persists.

LedZep,

I have 2 bmw's, using the same email address. When I send a google map (say to my X3), it also shows up on my Z. I was advised that if I wanted to send a map to 2 distinctive vehicles, then I would need 2 email addresses.

Frankly I'm not going to bother creating a 2nd one, I'll simply delete the message/map from the other car.

True but if you use your BMW Assist account name, not your email address (you can't use your email address in the UK, I just tried it), it will not give you the success message unless it's a valid and active BMW Assist account name - try it with xxx. Sorry if the US Google site works differently to the UK and this advice is no good

This is what you see on maps.google.com (in case you think I'm talking nonsense - I do talk nonsense regularly but that's not the point). Note BMW Assist Account Name not email address

In the U.S. it uses the email address - no option for account name.

That's what I would expect... duplicate delivery instead of no delivery. I'd be okay with that too. We'll see if they got it fixed.

Just spoke to a BMW representative over phone. They said to put your email address in CAPITAL LETTERS in the "BMW Assist Account Name" window.

They also said you have a 4 years free with your new X3.

Here's a page that may also help:

I don't believe that'll make a difference. I enter my email address all in lowercase & the map message arrives on both my vehicles

When I activated it, the guy also suggested using all caps, which I have been doing - but it makes no difference. I tried again since the "reset" and it still doesn't work. I guess it's going to take a more detailed troubleshooting call.

Still after many tries and 3 calls to BMW Assist - not working. They confirmed that the same email address for the X3 and X5 should send the directions to both cars. But it sends to neither of them.

It's not an urgent matter, but I'm starting to invest more of my personal time into this than I should have to. Now it's getting annoying.

I feel your frustration. I have to call BMW Assist several times before I finally got a good customer representative to fixed the connection. I was told that my X3 was not properly receiving the signal from BMW,and vice versa, and my dealer did not correctly set-up my account.

I too tried today sending the same address twice to my car both with lower case and upper case letters and both were not received.

maybe dealer did not set it up.

weird.
