RPMs Jumping On Startup Fix!

I am very pleased to report that I just spoke to my sales rep at the dealer, who reported last week that he had seen the startup issue on several cars already, and he told me that a software update is in the works and will be released by the end of September. The reason why the update will not be released until then, he explained, is that BMW is trying to combine several software remedies into one, larger update rather than forcing owners to make appointments week after week until all of the software updates have been made.

So fear not! In a matter of weeks, your RPMs will no longer jump at startup.

Sounds good. It will be very interesting to see what other issues BMW thinks are serious enough to include with the software update.

Hope they "update" the turbo boost from the current 8 or 9 psi to about 16.

Did he indicate how getting this software upgrade is handled?
Is it a recall, or will it just be applied to cars that come in with one of the problems addressed by the update.

I do not believe it is a recall, but he did not specify the priority of the update.

Betcha they will only do it for customers who have complained about the rpm jumping or possible any other issues that the update addresses. If a customer is "happy" and has not noticed any problems, why rock the boat?

I think we need to let Judd be the official "guinea pig". I'm always leery about any software updates and never update any of my computer systems until the update has been out for a few days and the effects are known in the real world. Been burned by Microsoft and Adobe too many times.

Looking foward to this update. I also have high rpms on startup, anywhere between 1000 - 1200. Wish they could just "call" my F25 and send the data, without a trip to the dealer.

Happy to be the guinea pig. I'm always excited to have an excuse to be upset with my dealership or BMW NA.

My X3 35i's RPMs started jumping on a cold start today, with 430 miles on it. I'm happy to hear that there is a fix in the works.

When I start the car, it goes all the way to 1500-1600 RPMs, before settling for 1000-1200 a few (4-5) seconds later. I thought N55 was supposed to do that. Apparently not...

I have the jumping RPM issue too so good news. Hopefully they will fix the stupid bug where I can't answer my phone through the steering wheel button as well.

I heard a rumor that Pirello BMW was going to convert one of their back office rooms to the "juddholland suite" complete with a Murphy bed, fully stocked bar and Hi-Def cable, just to keep you happy when you drop in.

Quick fix for the jumping idle problem. At startup turn OFF the Air Cond. for a few minutes and it smooths right out.

Seems like some people can and some people can't. In my case, I can't answer the first call via the steering wheel button but instead have to do it through the iDrive controller. Subsequent calls I am able to answer via the wheel button. Weird.

I've had the can't answer phone problem twice now with the latest just yesterday.

I also have the odd RPM jumping up and down issue at startup as well. Good to hear there's something coming to fix it.
