Cracked windshield with heads up display - what to expect?

About how much should I expect to pay? My comprehensive insurance has a $500 deductible. Do I need oem glass for the heads up display?

I had to go oem when mine cracked about 18 months ago. Paid my deductible and no change to my annual insurance. Glass was around $2kCAD.

The windshield is different on HUD-equipped X3s. You don't necessarily need OEM glass, but you do need the right glass.

Since insurance is paying, request the OEM, especially if you also have rain sensor, and triply so if you also have the front camera used for auto-high-beam and collision warning. If for no other reason, problems with those systems can't be blamed on the non-OEM windshield.

I bought the windshield insurance at time of purchase of my '15 X35i with HUD and no lane departure camera... Just had it replace due to a small rock chip that developed into a foot long crack over a period of time. Had it replaced two days ago with OEM glass here in Houston... I had a $0 deductible.. had I not had insurance the bill would have been $929.33
HUD works fine as before, no issues

FYI, mine would have been $1099 at an independent BMW shop. I used a BMW shop because the windshield had the heads-up panel, the rain-sensor gel pad, and the front camera aperture. The shop checked the alignment on the HUD, which can get off with the new windshield. They also ran a diagnostic check on the front camera, which they say can easily get disconnected or out of whack during a windshield install. A buddy of mine confirmed that it had happened to him.

BTW, I always get the $99 deductible on my comprehensive insurance; it's only like $25 more for our four cars, and we ALWAYS have a claim each year.

When mine was replaced last summer, the shop said the only option for the X3 with HUD was the OEM glass. Dont accept anything other than OEM.

Today, I took my 2016 X3 3.5i to get my dash cam and radar detector hard wired. Got a call in the afternoon, saying that after they took the A Pillar cover off a spider crack "developed". Net: They ordered a new windshield from BMW and Safelite will install it. Good comments here about making sure HUD is aligned, etc. fun, fun!
