Cost of tranny and t-case fluid change???
What has anyone paid for 1- transmission fluid change and 2- a transfer case fluid change. I would prefer to do this at the dealer but mine wants $550 for the tranny and $237 for the T-case. Both sound outrageous. I probably can get them down if I have real numbers from other dealers to support a different price.

Wow! That does sound way too much.
The Xfer case is very accessible, and uses less than $20 worth of fluid. You don't even need to raise the vehicle. Probably a 0.3hr. unit of work. For comparing dealer pricing, see: http://forums.roadfly.com/forums/bmw...9402590-1.html |

A word of caution concerning the transfer box. There is no aftermarket alternative so you must stick to the BMW Transfer Case Fluid, which is not expensive. For the transmission fluid and differantial fluids a quick check will reveal what can be used besides BMW's stuff (which mostly is Castrol anyway).

If the transfer case fluid is changed I believe something needs to be re-calibrated. Read this somewhere but not bookmarked so cannot provide a direct reference.

No, there is no calibration required for the Transfer Case. Its a straight pour out pour in job. I got my local guys to do it and no dramas. Had the diff fluids changed as well. Cheap insurance given that the transfer case needs to be changed every 50,000 kms but is not listed as a service item......
