We picked up our vehicles and drove them over to the factory last. (Ill post pics of my vehicle in a minute.) The factory tour was great, but unfortunately no cameras were allowed. It's something like 2.8 million square feet and employs about 7,000 people. A very impressive facility. We got to see most of the stages of X5 and X6 production in person. X3's are made in a separate section of the facility and not open to tours. But I did see several X3 bodies coming from the paint shop. What I will remember most are the robots. They use robots for assembling the frame and undercarriage and it's almost entirely automated. But those robots scare me. They were picking up pieces of steel, spinning them around in various ways, quickly welding multiple points, and all the while throwing welding sparks around everywhere. Several times the sparks almost hit us. But the assembly process was also interesting. We saw everything from installing headliners to radios to weatherstripping to installing doors, etc. If you like the show "How it's Made", then you would LOVE this tour.

Great report! You took more pictures that I did during my delivery a few weeks ago. Now I can show my friends what it's like! Thanks!

OMG! My palms are sweating with anticipation! Only saw the new X3 a couple of days ago - this is going to be a very quick buying decision (except now I've got to choose colors!) Options already chosen - fully loaded!
