it seems my nav wants to avoid expressways for some reason. I live outside chicago and go into the city, well the xpressway is the only way to go. If I type in the address on the gps, it wants me to go via side streets totally bypassing the expressway. Is there a way to fix that?

do you have dynamic destination guidance on? (navigation - > options -> dynamic guidance). It would automatically route you to avoid traffic jams.

There is the also the route criteria (third symbol from the top on the map), though I doubt that would route you off the highways. You never know.

Maybe you try playing around with route criteria? Fastests - shortest - most efficient. And switching off dynamic routing might also help.

Check to be sure that you don't have Avoid Highways selected.

This is intelligent Nav! It's trying to save your wheels and tires from 3rd World potholes and craters. Last year the owners of a Smart Car here were MIA for 6 weeks until a city streets repair crew found them cold and hungry at the bottom of a 6' crater.
