Exclamation Q:Is it possible to install N57s in F25? Where?

BMW offers only 30d (258 PS) and 35d (311 PS) versions of N57s engine for the X3 (F25), while the same engine in its most powerful version (N57s, 381 PS) is only available to X5, X6 and other bigger models.

I do not even ask, if it is possible to upgrade 30d or 35d to 50d, but if I buy a completely new N57s (50d) engine - will it be possible to install it in X3?

Also cannot understand, why Schnitzer, Alpina and Hamann don't offer this engine in X3. I can suppose only marketing reasons.

So: I'd like to have the fastest X3 ever, have enough budget and can wait enough. Also can relocate the car to Germany if needed.
I'm absolutely sure, it is possible to do.
But - where?

I will greatly appreciate any ideas about custom tuning ateliers to ask about it.

If you are doing an engine swap you would need to rewire it to make it work, upgrade the standard cars transmission (It's not necessary, but I would), maybe even doing custom work to make the slightly bigger engine fit and mount properly, upgrade and set the suspension to the different weight, and if I needed to do all that and basically make everything from scratch I would just get a proper BMW V8 like a N/S63 since you did say you wanted the fastest X3 and that money wasn't an issue. Get that baby to 500hp and you're set

So if you want an answer if it is possible, well everything is possible but I don't think it is going to be worth it. You would need an excellent mechanic that really knows what he is doing for this to be doable, but for the money and the trouble with it you could get a 5 or X5 series with the same or even a stronger engine.

I may be wrong so feel free to correct me

You would need to speak to a BMW expert. Maybe the 3 turbos on the top spec N57 would not fit in the engine bay of the X3?

Why not wait for the X3 M?

Also, RetroB makes a good point of the finding a good mechanic on God forbid whatever happens to the car, since he would be the only person that knows how to diagnose his work.

The 1st reason is that N57s is the same engine as already available 30/35d. Almost the same weight, construction, etc. Even the same ZF transmission (I suppose different settings for transmission of course).
The 2nd reason is that petrol V8 has a very different behavior. I already have M3 with this V8 and it's temper is very, very different! While speaking only 0-50 acceleration, mine F25 30d is much more predictable and following the pedal instantly. I do like it very much, while having lack of power at high speeds.
I like how my M3 accelerates after 100mph and want something like it in my X3.

What about M X3 - there are only rumors about it and nobody knows, if it will be released or not.

Alpina, unfortunately, made only 318hp version of X3… Not the 381 hp. I continue to think, that the only reason is marketing.

The question about space for 3 turbochargers under the hood of F25 is very interesting. Sounds reasonable. I'll try to find X5 M50d somewhere here and take a look at how these chargers are situated and if there is need in an additional intercooler(s)? But I think, that custom hood (like M3 has) could help me to solve the problem, if it exists.

M performance brakes or brakes from X5M or brake kit from brembo?
35d is really fast, but not as fast as "M" BMW could be.

Isn't it 350hp? I agree though the tri-turbo engine should be in the X3.

Have a look to that video. AC Schnitzer build a Z4 50d with 441hp and 840 torque, but no more details available.

Just buy a BMW X5 M or X6 M. Problem solved.

Being the X3 being lighter than the X5 wouldn't that suffice to get you comparative actual performance?

Don't let me talk you out of an awesome original project, but ...

Why not just chip a 35d? Or a 35i? Either one could make a LOT of power if you have the budget to strengthen other driveline parts and pay for potential repairs.
