Tires
I am hoping someone with more experience can help me.
I have a question about the Tires that would come on 35i 2012 x3 with the sport activity package. As you most likely already know this would come with the 309 Rim. My question is, the website says that this rim package has a All-Season Tire. What brand and model tires have people been getting on the 309 RIM Please also chime in if you have any experience with this tire in snow/ice and how it performs. I really don't want to have to put winter tires and rims on the SUV. Thanks to anyone that can tell me more information. Brian |

Tires have varied even within the same market. Hard to predict. I have the staggered 309s and couldn't find any All Season's in those sizes so went with Winter tires/rims.

Thanks, I don't know that I am interested in the X3 if I have to get Winter Tires and Rims, the added expense does not seam to be worth it. Audi and other's put real all-season tires and those have worked great. I just don't understand why BMW can't offer something reasonable. |

I test drove a 35 with all seasons and the steering felt very sloppy and imprecise, so ordered with a staggered 309 setup with summer tires, and just got a winter setup on 18" Moda EB1's and Michelin Pilot Alpin RFT's.

I was able to test drive the LS2s in snow last week, our first snowfall of about 5-10cm of wet heavy white crap that turned in a LOT of water the day after (got warmer quick).
I drove very carefully because of the lack of experience on how the vehicule itself handles on top of having all seasons; taking curves & acceleration was OK at best, didn't feel the tires come loose once, but like I said I was driving VERY conservatively. Stopping power on the other hand was HORRIBLE, heavy SUV + crappy all seasons on packed snow = ice-like conditions. They just couldn't get a grip on the snow whatsoever is was scary, and I don't keep my tires super inflated, so LS2s in my opinion area really not a good all season to use during winter (for us up north, no such thing as a good all-season during winter!) I ordered some 19" Blizzak LM-60s as I've always had good experiences with them, especially considering the good price. CAA + emergency cans is enough for me during winter. |
