FYI...bird crap stain removal

I finally got the bird crap stains out of my paint. I previously had tried regular cleaning and then a light scratch remover, but I was still left with a light stain. Using Meguiar's Rubbing Compound, which is clear coat safe I was able to remove the stains with light to moderate pressure. So if you find youself "crapped on", this really works well.

Have always had excellent results with Meguiar's products. Their "Gold" liquid wax is one of the longest lasting I've used.

If the Meguiars doesn't remove the bird crap, there is always:

Do you think it would be "clear coat safe"?

"clear coat safe" - heck, it's not even steel body panel safe!
But It WILL remove the bird droppings.

Lol if this was posted by anyone other than Lotus no one would even have seconds thoughts about it being a serious statement.

You really should shy away from suggesting things like this
This could seriously damage your paint!

I've had great luck with this
http://www.pressurewashersdirect.com...her/p6541.html
I've yet to find something that this could not remove
Including bird poop, tree sap, body panels, etc

Paint! What paint? Did your X3 come with paint?
The "brushed steel, DeLorean-like, appliance look" is so "Back to the Future".

Off Topic; kmarei - Have you seen the movie "Senna"? Highly recommended. The US version making the rounds here has been shortened to 90 minutes, but still includes some great insights to the personal side of Senna.

I am ashamed to say it, but I haven't seen it yet
I will hopefully this weekend
I had intended to watch it last weekend but hurricane Irene fired 3 servers at work, so I was busy fixing them, just finished them today
I know I'm going to cry
I still remember clearly the day he died
Where I was, what I was wearing, the people around me :'(

I wax my cars with Turtle Wax ICE spray wax and I keep their ICE spray detailer and microfiber cloth with the car for those bird crap moments. A quick spray with the detailer and the bird crap & bugs slide off effortlessly with no damage to the paint.

For some reason, the birds that are crapping on my black X5 this year seem to be eating radioactive berries or something. By the time I notice the mess in early evening after my wife garages the car, it is nearly impossible to remove them without some etching. I have tried various safe cleaners and techniques, but many of them still leave a residual print.

Be careful using any "rubbing compound", whether it says it is clearcoat safe or not. What makes rubbing compounds work is abrasion. The harder you rub, and the more product you apply, the more abrasion you are causing. You are removing a layer of your clearcoat, albeit very thin. Same goes for any polish.

I use a mild polish and a random orbital with foam pads designed for the polish, but I am still careful not to make this a frequent activity.

Personally, I think the BMW paint is inferior to many in its ability to resist this type of etching. It is also super important to keep a good coat(s) of wax or sealant on the vehicle.

I believe that the best way to deal with this is prevention – an excellent wax job, I’ve had good luck with Mequires 3 step wax (cleaner, polish, protector) …time consuming but provides excellent protection.

Although, if you don’t get to removing bird crap pretty quickly it tends to burn through anything.

BMW have been in denial about the problems of bird crap for several years. It is because they now use water based paint systems but they say bird crap has no effect when everyone else knows it does.

Doesn't this apply to all car brands?
