Pre-LCI 3.0D M-Sport vs LCI 2.0D M Sport

Hi guys

I've been offered the following but finding it a bit hard to decide and was hoping to get your thoughts.

Brand new Pre-LCI late 2013 3.0D with:
- M Sport pack
- Panoramic Sunroof
- Head up display
- Heated Frot Seats
- DAB+
- Metallic Paint

LCI 2.0D with:
- M Sport
- Panoramic Sunroof
- Head up display
- Professional Navigation
- Comfort access
- Heated front seats

At end of the negotiation, the Pre LCI will only cost me $3,000 more than custom order LCI 2.0D.

Is the N57 engine in 30D more reliable than 20D?

Also, which would retain its resale value better?

Are there any machanical difference between the two versions? Do LCI models get full colour head up display as oppose to orange ones?

Interested to get your thoughts!

If it was up to me I'd take the pre-LCI 30d - simply because the 30d engine is simply so much better than the 20d. Even though the LCI 20d is the new B47 with a bit more power and (apparently) less noisy then the superseded N47 engine, the well proven 30d engine just makes the driving experience so much better. You need to have a good test drive of both and see if you can live with the 20d. Personally I would also favour the looks of the pre-LCI M-sports over the LCI M-sport.

Thanks for your input! Do you know if there are any mechanical differences between the Pre LCI 30D vs LCI 30D?

That's an interesting one. The LCI specs for acceleration have improved by about 0.5s (I can't recall exactly how much). It could be just marketing or that might have changed engine mapping or gearbox settings. There are suggestions the steering is better. Hard to know what's real though.

I believe paddle shifters are part of the M Sport package.

I don't know about Oz specs or even UK specs for sure but it used to be only the 35D msport that got the paddles. The uk doesn't get the petrol versions but I expect the 35i msport would get paddles too....even tho it's slower. :-)

According to 2014 (LCI) spec guide from the BMW Australia website paddle shifters are part of the M-Sports package across the X3 range.
