Got a bird
just for fun.
A bird flew to the front of the car but didn't have enough time to escape. Heard a small bang while driving at 60mph. didn't see its body on the road but later found out it got squeezed into the grill. Luckily the bird was still alive and I was able to pull it out. ;-) |

I once got a frog who jumped into the lower grille. Unfortunately I didn't notice it for a few days. The poor thing was long dead but quite a funny sight.

The most bizarre experience I had once was when a dog (Jack Russell) ran in front of the car (not an X3), in which I was a passenger. We were doing 85mph at the time and had no chance of missing it.
About 20 miles up the road we pulled into a service station (Scotch Corner for the UK members) to check the front of the car. The dog was hanging from its collar from the front towing eye. Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, it was dead. The poor thing did not have a mark on it. At the risk of a thread jack, any other car - animal experiences?

Not an X3 story nor was it my car but was nearly so...Driving southbound on highway 280 in the Bay Area when a deer came running out of the hill that separates the higher-up northbound direction highway. It ran along the side of the freeway against traffic and came within inches of my car (Honda Civic at the time...I was in the fast lane and nearly died of a heart attack) before going in more lanes. Still in shock, I looked in my rearview mirror and saw it get hit dead-on on its side by another civic about 2 lanes in. It went flying in circles on its side through the air and settled somewhere near or just off the slow lane. Surprisingly, the civic did not appear to have sustained much damage other than getting the front portion of its hood flattened despite the fact that the civic was probably doing nearly 70 mph at the time of impact. I'm guessing that the legs got swept from under the deer tilting it sideways so that it folded over the hood before being launched into the air. It's been 3 years and I still nervously scan the sides of the freeway whenever I see a deer crossing sign.

Must have been the new pedestrian safety front end design on the X3 that saved that bird!
