Hey guys, before I start this thread. I would like to thank the people who answered my previous questions.

I own a 35i, on a fill up on premium gas it cost me 48-53$ every 2-3weeks. Mostly 3 weeks on non aggressive driving. Doing every ways to save gas.
In exchange I get 290-310 miles in a single fill up when my reserve tank light is up.
And on the computer it told me I was averaging 18.3-18.9 per gallon, I was wondering if this is normal.

im getting around 300-330 miles (around 19.3mpg?) for $70.....

but i usually wait till i have less than 30miles left to gas up.

In city driving I get about 300-350 miles to a tank (about 20-22 mpg). In highway driving I get 400-450 miles to a tank (about 26-28 mpg). I have to fill up every 1.5 weeks or so.

Is the car through the break-in? Is it cold where you are? Is your non-aggressive driving being done around town, or on the highway? All these things count.

You read the warning in the owner's manual about doing that, right?

its about 40% Highway, 60% Town.
I always look at dash making sure it doesn't surpass 1.7-1.8k in Reving and also my red efficiency bar not going below 20, meaning i take my time in the middle lane cruising 50Mph yet enjoying driving with my favorite sad music while on the highway.

While on town, i keep my rev at 1k-1.3k going 30-35Mph
i always look ahead and not putting any gas if the light is red, i just let the engine run by itself, thus saving on brake.

The current mileage on my x3 is 2558 Miles. Also, its somewhat cold here getting 25-41 degrees daily.

I read the owners manual a day after i got my 2012 x3, at 1st i didn't believe that if you go on your reserve tank, your electronics would fail,
so i challenged that recently i had around 25 miles left, suddenly my music on the HDD wont play, from school to going home, im like WTFFFFshfsgfpisagfisgdfgsifasifdasa

I wish we had a diesel version of the x3 in the US

haha funny story, when i test drove the car back in 2010, the car ran out of gas on the freeway.........sales person had to call for gas

I also get 800-900km from a tank (country / city driving). Costs about $80 to fill up here.
AND I DROVE IT LIKE I STOLE IT!

i was told not to do this because the gas pump is immersed in the tank and it uses the gas (liquid) for cooling it.

I am not sure I believe this reasoning. I am an electrical engineer , and there is no way that I would put and electrical pump in a puddle of gasoline. I know it's sealed, and I am not an expert in immersible pumps, but from the outside, just doesn't seem correct...

Storing pumps inside of fuel tanks is an extremely common practice, even in the Aerospace industry. Gasoline is a good electrical insulator.

Best I have ever managed from a tank on 3.0D is 510, usually its around 460

Definitely very common. In fact many manufacturers put both the fuel pump and fuel filter in the tank. They consider them non-servicable components. If you have a fuel filter clog or a pump break you have to replace the entire gas tank. All full size GM trucks and SUVs went this route in 2006 I believe.

So not only is it important to avoid frequent dips past the 1/4 tank mark for fuel pump cooling purposes it is also important from a sediment perspective. When your tank gets low your fuel pickup has a much better chance of picking up all the junk that has accumulated at the bottom of your tank over the years.

It's in your best interest to always fill up before a quarter tank.

I've only had my 35d for a month but I'm averaging 450ish per full tank. However, I've only done short runs so far - I'm yet to set it free on a motorway where I'm hoping the mpg will improve :-S

We are getting about the same with out 35i so far, also non aggressive, probably 40/60 city highway driving. Was hoping it would be at least in the 22 range.

I was hopping to get at least 21-22mpg.
It might be that I'm not on the 5000 mile mark yet. But I hope it would improve a lot by then.

I was really surprised when my reserve light came on. I was halfway between one quarter and empty. computer tells me I have 50 miles to go. I was expecting the light to go on when it was closer to Empty, not closer to one quarter or just in between. That's what I had been used to. So after I filled up I checked the mpg's vs. the cpu and the cpu was exactly as I calculated with my calculator. 18.8mpg's. That is mostly 7 mile back road trips with occasional 15 mile back road trips also. I only have 1000 miles on my 35i now and it's been cold and we're still on the winter gas formula so I expect the mpg to be better come the summer. I hope so. Gas just broke $4/gal here.

getting 500 miles-ish to a full tank based on city driving, about 550-600 from my trip from berkshire to scotland a few months ago..

U_U im really jelly of people having a diesel x3 , they avg like 400-600 mpg.

Right now at 3874 miles im still averaging 270-290 miles at 18.7-18-8 mpg Both city and highway driving =_=.

getting about 20.7 mpg in mixed, mostly highway, driving with my 35i, going about 80mph whenever possible. i have about 2500 mi on it.

as i understand it, the fuel gauge does not have a built in forgiveness/sloppiness factor. most cars' gauges seem to have a couple of gallons left when they register zero. apparently the bmw's gauge has teutonic accuracy.
