Nail in tire

I got a nail in my rear tire, the tire shop I went to said it's not repairable because it's on the tire wall, is that true? I just replaced this tire 3 months ago.

correct.. not safely at least.

if its in the curved part on the inside it may not seal or if it does it may not for long and could cause a blowout.

you could risk it and fix it yourself though. they won't because then they would be liable.

so to recap, anything on the side or the crown of a tire is not legally nor safely repairable.

+1 , buy a new tire or used tire, unless you have tire/wheel warranty package from the dealership

i work at a firestone/wheel works. anything close to or on the sidewall is not repairable. or if you have 2 patches on the tire already it is not repairable. and if you get a nail in a repairable spot, and you use fix-a-flat, it's not repairable. most reputable tire shops offer "road hazard warranty" for an additional cost per tire (a percentage of tire cost). usually covers repairable flats, and if its not repairable you get a free tire (but still pay for installation and new road hazard coverage if you choose)

It looks like you have installed set of Pirelli tires. Pirelli provides Road Hazard warranty to their tires if you have purchased tires from the authorized dealer.

If your tire set are PNCS™ (Pirelli Noise Cancelling System™), tires are covered by Pirelli for first 12 months of purchase. You just have to go to Pirelli authorized dealer with the tire purchase invoice and they will file a claim.

Read this PDF (page 4). https://d3nv2arudvw7ln.cloudfront.ne...erWarranty.pdf

I had Pirelli and after having to do with ONLY authorized dealer, I have moved away from Pirelli recently.

I guess I'll just buy a new one, I don't want to take the risk of a blowout when driving on the highway.

I bought a set of Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus Radial from Amazon during discount, not sure if the warranty can apply to my situation. I had these tires mounted at my local tire shop, but thanks for the info.

One thing good about Tire Rack is that their tires come with a 2 year road hazard warranty. I've used it twice in the past few years.

That's good info, was not aware. Slightly off this topic: I swear, RF tires are 'nail magnets'....I have read more posts the past couple years about people with RF"s picking up nails or the like.

My buddy's wife in Walnut Creek, CA got three (3) flats - nails - within 4 months after purchase of a CPO 3-Series sedan - and the woman is not living in or driving around construction zones, talk about bad luck!

It's just morons driving with unsecured crap in their vehicles/trailers. I picked up a 4" deck screw in my motorcycle one day on the highway. Anyway...

I love Discount Tire's warranty for stuff like this. I think they are too hard on the wheels though, but I still go to Discount Tire. They have saved me a few times over the past four years. Their warranty is amazing.

Yeah if my 4 tires two got replaced under road hazard warranty. 3rd got a nail in just after 2 years so I bought a patch kit and patched it myself as no one wants to patch run flats
