I remember someone saying things like Satellite radio can be programmed/installed by the dealer after the fact. I saw Dynamic Cruise is coming to the 2013's.

Anyone know/postulate whether it could be installed on a 2012 by a dealer?

Is that the thing that hits the brakes for you so you can eat a bowl of cereal, or whatever, instead of paying attention? I'd imagine it'll require some sort of additional radar hardware to detect ahead.

Well, the dynamic cruise foresees "something" able to detect vehicles in front of you and I believe it must be some sort of radar/camera system, the parking sensors have a too short range to allow such a functionality, so in the best hypothesis you could be able to install a retrofit system AND then code it on the iDrive.

Dynamic cruise isn't anything new. It's a standard feature on the 2012 X3 and most other BMWs. It's essentially regular ordinary cruise control (in addition to accelerating to maintain speed, I think it applies the brakes to maintain set speed while going downhill).

You may be confusing this with what BMW calls Active Cruise Control (ACC), typically a $2-3K option depending on model. ACC uses radar and to detect objects ahead and adjusts speed.

I don't think ACC has been available on the X3. Maybe that's what's new in 2013.
