Power-folding/Auto-dimming mirror option - Can a dealer install this?

Hi All,

I got my X3 without a premium pkg, I know it's lame but I am not fond of Leather or Panoramic roof. But didn't realize that I will be missing Auto-dimming interior mirror and power-folding exterior mirrors because of that.
Can this option be installed now. It's really annoying to drive in the night if someone tailgating me with high beams, also I fold my mirrors manually before parking. Any pointers will be helpful.

One strange thing is my car had ambiance lighting(door handle lights, foot well lights, etc) which should only be a part of prem pkg.

It can be done by a cooperative mechanic but is expensive and most dealers won't touch it. Figure around $1500 for the mirrors with installation, and then add on the paint plus the iDrive reprogramming, so you're probably near $2K.

Probably cheaper to hire a local kid to fold your mirrors when you park.
Thanks Lotus7 for quick response!! I can live without power-folding mirror option, not a big deal.

But, is it possible to change the inside rear-view mirror to auto-dimming or auto-dimming with compass like the 3-series? It's an important safety feature and I don't know why BMW not making it as a standard.

Funny thing is the Rain-sensing wiper came as standard.

Safety feature? You can't just turn the "clown nose" to manually dim it?

Seriously I am not aware this...I have been searching for this option to manually dim it. Normally in non-BMW cars there will be small switch under the mirror which will be pulled to dim the mirror...didn't expect that we need to turn the clown nose. Damn these German engineering...

Well, don't go breaking anything - but that's the way it worked on the e46 cars.
