fair enough - my BMW Service Center is actually quite reasonable to install tires I get from tire rack so I'm pretty sure I'm going w/ the Bridgestone RE960AS pole position run flats - going to save me something like $700 over the Pirelli's bought from my service center = not even close.

For those that are afraid to switch to regular tires, how many times in your life have you actually been in a situation where you were stranded because of a flat tire?

I would have been stranded in May, at least 75 miles from the nearest BMW dealer. I'm not a fan of RFTs, but I'm even less of a fan of being stranded.

Its done, I had the Bridgestone RE960AS pole position run flats mounted on my 2011 X3 35i today.

My BMW Service Center will install self purchased tires from Tirerack or similar for $45/tire + i had to pay for alignment. Perhaps a little more than an indy tire shop, however it seems like most tire shops mark up the install of RFT's anyway over non-rft. Also, some routine maintenance (cabin air filter, brake fluid replacement both under covered maintenance) at the same time When you factor in I also was provided with a loaner car which no indy or chain tire shop will do, I feel it was worth it.

my CA wants to know how the Bridgestone's do as another option for other X3 customers...

i have 2012 x3, and it just turn 2 yrs and 30k. i check the tired thread depth with tool and if i read it correct its 6/32 and 7/32 on certain parts of the tire. is it time to replace or it can hold off til next winter. i know anything below 4/32 is must replacement. i have bridgestone duelers

We replaced our Pirelli P7 all-seasons at 30K miles with same in anticipation of winter. The dealer (Schomp BMW, Highlands Ranch, CO) had a sale going and was not that far off the Tire Rack price. They also did an alignment and the 30K service so it was convenient as well.

Note that, at least with the Pirellis, there are OEM versions and non-OEM versions. The dealer provided OEM version and I have seem them listed at Tire Rack as well. Not sure how much difference there is between the two.

I have a 2013 and the Pirelli P7's had an abysmal wear....I would like to switch to something else and Tire Rack recommended the Potential 960AS. I saw you were thinking about it two years ago and wondering how they worked out?!

I'm curious what the wear rating number is on your P7s. Mine have a wear rating of 500.

Anybody tried the Michelin MXM4 ZP? It's one of the few RFT available in 245/45-19 with a 102 load rating. Not as pricey as the others.

The outer tread block on the OEM Goodyears is disintegrating at 32K miles. Never seen a tire do like this before. 2012 X3 35i M-sport.

Yes, we replaced the OEM LS2's with the ZP (RFT) Michelins on our 2011 X3 35i, size 245/45-19. Have not had any issues. They ride comfortably, handle well (at least for an all season), are not noisy, hold air pressure well, and do reasonably well in snow. Have not checked how they are wearing.

I started this thread 3 years ago when my X3 needed its first set of tires. At that point it was 2 years old, 22850mi - I put Bridgestone Potenza RE960A/S RFT's on (Oct 2013) Now 3 years later, today I hit 56k and I still have those tires - I got over 33k out of them. they are done, I'm buying another set of RE960A/S's this months.

Very happy with the fact I got 33k on tires that cost a lot less than the Pirelli's that came from the factory.

def recommend these tires. esp if you don't drive much in the snow or put winter tires on (i don't drive much in snow) they are great in rain, great dry, and 33k is solid for any set of tires on X3's. I rotated them atleast twice.

I figure this next set will hopefully get me to almost 90k - prob buy a new car by then.

Tires have improved greatly since the days of the RE960A/S.

Unfortuantely, I don't see the Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3+ or Continental DWS06 in 245/50/18 although I think you can still mount a 255/45/18 on the OE wheel.

Thanks for the advice - there are a few options that weren't avail 3 years ago - in 245/50/18. I don't feel comfortable changing the tire size that might or might not fit.

I decided to stick w/ the Bridgestones - was happy enough w/ the last set to get them again.

Good to see a single thread that has some tire experiences.

I purchased a set of Pirelli Sottozero Serie II and have had good luck. Since I live in Colorado, I just run them year round as they are "performance winters." They are more like softer all seasons. Though a bit pillowy at 85+ mph, they are great in the cold, wet, and light snow (<4"). I've ran them for about 8,000 miles and it appears I'll be able to squeeze ~15,000 out of them. I consider that pretty good for a pseudo winter tire.

That's what worries me about changing from RFT. I would love to make a switch to more comfortable tyres but worry that the cars agility and cornering prowess will severely be affected.

I can assure you the car's agility and cornering prowess has not changed. Not on my X3 xDrive 30d M Sport. I changed to the identical Pirelli NON Runflats in July of this year. Here are the details...

Keep in mind I'm referring to the Sottozeros which are technically winter tires thus much much softer than all seasons.
