Who cares about a car that can easily be replaced. If they damage the car I will make them fix it. My kids safety is far more important than any car will ever be to me.
Exactly!

Yeah, what a miserable person to say that about his kids and not have any faith that his vehicle would be repaired properly.

Let me know, pay very close attention to your headliner as well as the front seats for any damage from welding slag. If they short cut protecting the interior damage could happen. Also, test everything electrical on the vehicle to ensure that it is all working as welding can damage electrical components. This repair makes me a little nervous as there is alot that can go wrong. My appointment is next Tuesday.

I have not seen a workdescription, but my reading is this:
-remove rear seats
-weld reinforcements at two or three points.
-each reinforcement requires two - small - weldings.

Does not seem too dangerous, but shit happens.

Lotus - thanks!

A bit more elaborate than I thought - but most is protection of vehicle.
4 reinforcements with a bit more welding than I anticipated.
Easy welding.

BMW has - in good German tradition - gone to the extremes to prevent any damage to vehicle - if procedure is followed.

I wan't hesitate to leave my car - will just demand coffe and another drive in their X4 M40i

hey nyalphine90,

which dealership did you bring it to? how long did it take and did you get a loaner? My dealership still hasn't notified me yet, i know the notice says on or before July 12th but still rather get this resolved sooner rather than later. I will give them a call anyway since I have a scheduled service coming up too.

Loaner policy varies by dealer. Fortunately, my dealer does loaners during repair, but only if you tell them at the time you schedule the repair.

hey marc x,

I think the isofix thing is for X3's and X4's, the driveshaft recall is for X5's and X6's. I just read the bmwblog article and it is written in a confusing way but if you google other sources that should clear things up I think.

Yea i am hoping to get a loaner as well, just need to call ahead I think.

I schedule all of my service for a date when a BMW loaner is available. My dealer has over 100 loaners, and that still means that sometimes the next available slot is two weeks out.

I'll schedule the recall repair to coincide with my next service appointment.

hmm, looking at the pdf of the repair procedure... I don't know if I should get the recall done to my truck because I have a subwoofer system. My aftermarket amp is in the luggage compartment along with a power celll glass mat stinger battery. You guys think they will take the time to disconnect and reconnect the system to complete the process !??!

They may tell you that you have to remove it yourself prior to the service. It varies from dealer to dealer, but most don't like to assume responsibility for removing equipment that you've installed. It makes sense when you think about it. They don't want to risk breaking your gear, and they don't have any documentation on how to properly remove/reinstall it.

Obviously I can only speak for the dealer I go to, but my service advisor is really great over email. I live 30 minutes from the dealer, so I will frequently send him photos of things that I'm concerned about or think need service. He loves, and always tells me that he wishes all his customers would just send in photos of stuff so they can have a look prior to me bringing the car in. I'd send some photos of your setup when you get the recall notice. I'm sure your SA will be up front with you about their policy.

I contacted BMW Customer Service in the UK about this recall quoting the NHTSA reference and received the following response -

Good afternoon Steve

Thanks for your email. I’m sorry to hear you haven’t been notified about the ISOFIX mounting on your BMW X3 – I can understand your concern.

I’ve checked our records and can see that there’s an outstanding technical campaign for this. We don’t notify customers about technical campaigns. These are usually completed during your next service and are free of charge. If you want to arrange for this to be done, you can contact your local Centre here.

If there’s anything else I can do for you, please get back in touch.
Kind regards

Jordan

Seems like BMW in the UK are not treating this as seriously as BMW North America

tiggerii; there are two worlds - the US and the rest . But in this case it is surprising, since the attachments seem to be more critical (different baby seats) to "outside world" than the US.

If you remain in EU, we might help you to a recall.

Very true, and if we do decide to leave the EU I hope we go somewhere hot like the caribbean
