328 to the x3

Just made the decision to go from my '12 328 to a '13 x3

I'm a bit said to leave my car. She's been good to me. But I need more foo for the growing fam.

What am I going to notice? Major differences in

Acceleration?
Handling?

This is my first SUV...

Did you go with a 35i or 28i?

I'd have thought that you would be the best person in the world to answer your own question. Surely you have had test drives of the X3 and thus would be in the special position of being able to make direct comparisons with your 328.

I went from a 335i Vert to X3 3.0D. Aside from petrol vs diesel characteristics the biggest acclimatization I had to make was to approach bends slower. The grip levels and rock hard suspension on the 335i meant that it was on rails. Good as the X3 is I found I was cornering close to its limit at first. With the 335i I had to slow down at times when the UK roads were rough - sort of lumpy surfaces on rural roads -they would throw the car all over the road. No such issue with the X3.

I went with Msport X35 (my first xdrive) with Tech, Premium, Nav and rear view with top down. (Many more features than my essentially basic 328). Also Black Nevada to Oyster

Thank you, that is helpful. While I did test drive I didn't get to really dig in and feel out some bendy roads.

I'm exited and really did need the extra space but have a slight feeling I am going to miss the way my 328 hugs the road.

My wife has a '11 328i w/sport package and I just got the '14 X3 35i M Sport. I'll take my X3 over her 328i any day of the week.

I went E92 328i --> E83 M-Sport --> F25. I missed the coupe at first, but its it completely useless for my lifestyle. I just got the F25 last week and whoa, what a car! My next car will also be an X3... or possibly X4

I went from an E90 MSport 335i to an X3 35i Sport.

The difference between the two is best summarized as follows.

The 335i MSport begs to be driven hard
The X3 35i Sport tolerates being driven hard. Very well. But.... it doesn't beg for it

That being said, the X3 is an excellent handling SUV (SAV) with the sport package and adjustable suspension

I went from a 2008 E91 328xi wagon to a 2011 X3 35i and I am much happier with the X3. I prefer the larger size and sitting a little higher, love the handling of the 35i, sport package and DHP. I have to admit that part of why I enjoy my X3 alot more is it has more options (backup camera is tops on the list) and well its a 35i and my 328 was a 28i....

you will be quite happy.

Well said, that will probably keep me out of trouble some nights!

I think i will be the same, I didn't have enhanced BT or the rear/top camera so that will be fun.

I realize I will take a hit on fuel economy, but hopefully not that bad.

pick up day is tomorrow, can't wait!

I had the low end 328i for two weeks while my x3 35i was in the shop. Big difference. The bigger engine was way better. You picked the right choice for going with the 35i. I have a feeling you won't miss your 328i much.
It won't feel as sporty since you are sitting up higher but just knowing it can keep up and beat the 328i is worth it. Don't forget to get DHP package!

I didn't get DHP... got it "used" with 16km's on it...

ZAK - Technology Package
ZNI - Premium Package
NZ - M Sport Package
3AH - Rear View Camera with Top View
4CH - Wave Brown Wood Trim

And comfort access... unless DHP was included in one of those packages but after reading here I don't think so.

I was "upside down" on my lease so now that I'm "right side up" again next time I will be able to order what I want... This is a 36 month trial of the x3.

I'm excited
