Front License Plate.

So for those of you who are *legally* required to put on the front license plate, did you put it on or not? Run into any problems?

BC requires a front plate. I have not put it on. No problems YET.

I have the front plate and I'm in Mass. Not having it here is just not worth the grief.

I think the UK wins the largest license plate font size award - worldwide?

Highway patrol is beginning to crack down on this...We've had our G35 since Nov 07 and in 3 years only got pulled over once for this (the front license plate is displayed on the driver side dash). In the last 3 months however, we've now been pulled over twice, including the day we went to order our X3.

Each time we've received a warning, but it's gotten to the point where it's not worth the hassle of constantly being pulled over. Local PD doesn't care however.

I would guess here in California, where front plates are required, that enforcement will be even greater since the cities have discovered the money maker call "Red Light" cameras. They like the front plate to say "cheese".

That happened to me with two previous cars, but this time they had not put on the front plate holder, and asked me if I wanted it.

I put mine on here in Illionis since I did not want to run into any grief with the law. Funny a front plat is not needed for my Harley Davidison!

I havent used front plates for 10 years in IL, never been pulled over. It's required by law though.

Just got my plates today and they asked me if I wanted the front one mounted... I said no. I figure if I get pulled over for it I'll just act like I don't know about the law and tell them I got the plates in the mail and there was no place to mount it. My VW I had a few years back never had a front plate and I never got pulled over for it, but then again I didn't have a 35i to get me in trouble

Well, give it a try, most can happen is that you get a ticket and are forced to put it on then.

I recently went to the Parts Dept at my local dealer. They sell front license plate holders that screw into the front towing hook that is already on the car anyway. The plate will be off-center (to the left of center on the X3 if looking at it from the front). It does not require drilling holes in the front bumper.

Until I get my first "fix-it" ticket, I will not put on my front license plate here in CA. Once I get pulled over, I will purchase the no-drill front license plate holder, screw it in, show it to the police, and then take it out until I get pulled over again (at that point, I might just leave it on )

Would like to see a picture if and when you mount the plate.

Just be sure that you don't get stopped again by the same officer. This vvv will count as a point and you can get to take traffic school to mask that point.

Small town in central Illinois, cops are bored….Do I put them on?
Youbetcha!

Fortunately they are talking about doing away with the front plates. I hope it passes.

While it's dumb that they require front plates, front plates on the X3 actually don't look that bad. Obviously it'll look better without but with the large black plastic bumper in the front and gap at the bottom it leaves a lot of extra room to fill in. On sedans and maybe the M sport front plates will look weird because there's no large gap and looks like it sorta hangs off the lowest point on the car.

Not putting on a front plate when it's required just seems like you're asking for trouble especially if you're speeding when not having a plate, carry illegal substances, etc.

I've got mine on in Chicago. My buddy, however, does not have one on his car. He does get the occasional ticket when he street parks his car in the city.

With local governments looking to increase revenue streams, enforcement of these little things has been stepped up. I got a ticket for not putting on my registration sticker right away. I wanted to wait until the weekend to scrape the previous 5 stickers off and have a clean surface. I actually received the ticket by mail, which tells me they probably just saw the tag while I was driving and ticketed the plate number.
