I've decided to go with Blizzak WS80 225/55R18 non-runflat tires. Under $1000 at Costco plus Bridgestone has a $70 mail in rebate.
The narrower tire 225 vs 245 should help the tire cut through snow and the width reduction (20mm - 3/4") shouldn't make any difference for normal driving.

I went with Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4's in a 245 50 18. Installed on DAI Autobahn's. Great setup so far - handling is amazing on dry pavement and winter conditions.

Mine are on as well. 19" x 8.5" O.Z. Superturismo LM with Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3Ds (runflat). They only came in gray so I gave plasti-dip a try. It's everything it's cracked up to be. If I could do it again, I'd avoid the glossifier- wheels looked much better before gloss (mid-process photo is pre-glossifier). Could use some black bolts.

I much prefer the grey, black always makes the tyres look really dirty and brown.
But each to their own, and if we were all the same......blah, blah, blah. |

FYI for all who were looking for 20 inch winter tyres. Nokian tyres now has Hakkapeliitta R2 in sizes 215/45-20 and 245/40-20.
They were developed for the i8. A Finnish guy bought i8 for everyday use and in winter time it is obligated to have proper winter tyres here. And of course before that no suitable winter tyres were on market. I just read this information from the magazine of BMW Club Finnland. So if you want big winter tyres, better contact Nokian Tyres straight. |

Just put on Pirelli Winter Carving Edge. It's a studdable ice/snow tire. Hopefully I don't regret the choice as initially it's feeling very squishy.
I chose this tire as I've used Hankook Ipike W409 on my other vehicles with great results the last two winters (pretty much unbeatable driving out in the worst of the storms). The Pirelli is in a similar style but I was just surprised how much softer the Pirelli is. |

I Increased psi by 2 on the winter tires and it made a big difference. Quote:
