Haven't had the need to race

Picked up my car last Wednesday and have put on about 700 km. My previous cars include : 2010 Subaru WRX, 2004 Cadillac CTS-V, 2001.5 Audi S4, 2003 Acura TL-S, 2000 Acura Type R etc etc. With all of those cars I tend to feel the need to race. Not that I pick races but when I feel other drivers are irking me on I accept openly.

So far with the X3 I have been driving quite politely. I let people cut in, and generally drive near the speed limit except for a couple times on 3 lane open roads with very few cars around me. Wednesday night I was stopped at the light when to my left was a newer Civic and to my right a car (I forgot what it was) was annoyingly rolling and stopping and rolling and stopping. When light turned green the Civic squealed the tires and the other car stomped on it on a roll. They both were ahead of me but I had a smile on my face knowing I am driving the N55 :-)

Well I guess soon I would need to drive the car a bit harder. Right now in N mode it upshift at about 1,500rpm and in S mode I think around 2,200 - 2,500 rpm. I do paddle shift too (not very often gear shift) and in that case I rev it up more. It is time to play a little and get the car up near the 4,000 - 4,500 range :-)

My goodness!

Will wonders never cease?

Seriously, when I'm driving a really fast car, I tend to drive pretty conservatively (at least MOST of the time). It's really no fun blowing off a Honda Civic with a Corvette- what's the point?

BUT – Back to XB101’s “issue”. I’m sure we can supply plenty of suggestions to help you become a more aggressive driver. First, why not switch from the watered-down decaf you’re obviously drinking to cappuccino? Also, blowing your horn more may help.

Good Luck! Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Yesterday a Ferrari(looked new) planted his nose on my rear and as I jinked in and out of slower traffic. When we hit an open stretch he started to pass me(both at 60 mph) and I floored the throttle(sport+) we stayed even to 115mph when I backed off for safety reasons. Needless to say I was more than impressed with the performance of my little dog hauler. I made the mistake of telling my wife when I got home and she was definitely not amused.

While none of us condone this behavior ...

So the Ferrari driver seriously tried to pass you all the way to 115 mph but couldn't? That's amazing, especially for an SUV.

Or he/she was just keeping up to check up on the new X3, and wonder he/she should get it for his/her newly graduated teenage son/daughter

A lot of idiots do that to me when I'm driving my Porsche. I go to pass a slower moving vehicle and they feel the need to show me how fast they are. There are no late model Ferraris that can't blow away an X3 at will. Heck, the sales tax on the Ferrari would buy 1/2 an X3.

The Ferrari driver was probably at half throttle because he was talking on the phone. Save it for the track next time.

Or she was laughing too hard at the silly SUV racer.

Hmmm, I thought only the older Ferraris had the electrical issues that cut power to the engine when you used your phone or operated the electric windows?

I catch quite a few people having a glimse of the X3 and then quickly look away :-) The LED lights among other things sure get attention.

The X3 is fast but from 60 to 115 any Ferrari made in the last 10 years would be able to pass. Now if the X3M comes out that may be a different story.
