Smile Climate Control on My BMW Remote!

Did anybody in US get lucky climate control option in My BMW Remote? I got everything working in the iphone app except for climate control option. That would be great asset to have!

I thought that this was only available for the UK.

Would love to know how you got this.

I downloaded the iphone app creating a UK account on itunes store. And later login using the credentials for BMW assist, user id: email id registeredfor BMW assist and Password is the first password registered with BMW assist. It works neat, except for climate control...

Sweet, I want to try that on my iPhone 4s. Do you need any extra option on the x3? Like do you need BMW apps or something?

You only need pro nav / tech package and an activated BMW Assist account (SIM subscription)

I could not create UK account, it needs UK address and UK credit card. Any clue?

The car has its own SIM card in it for the BMW Online stuff. That SIM needs an active subscription so that when the app "calls" the car, it wakes up and flashes the lights/beeps the horn, turns on ventilation etc.

It's pretty reliable for me. I use the Google send to car feature a lot. The flash lights and ventilation commands are slow to kick off but that's down to how long the car takes to wake up so that it can process the received command. You can see how fast it would be by sending it a command immediately after locking it - the car is still "snoozing" and it only takes 20 seconds start to finish

Does this kill the battery? I'd love to use this on the way home or in the morning to warm the car up but fear it would...

Although it's called climate control, it isn't, it's just ventilation (equivalent to the ventilation timer that you can set from iDrive), no air con, no heating, just fans. Useful in the summer when the car has been parked in the sun but that's about it

Bugger. Wish we had engine heaters like they have in the US. I'd love to get into a toasty car in the morning rather than have the heat just coming through as I get out of it at the station!

You should see the following symbol on iDrive screen when X3 is communicating with BMW Assist, a cropped snap shot from nav screen is shown below:

We don't have engine heaters. Only as a third-party option like others.
