You've got to be kidding - this is Canada and no rear heated seats?

I'd love to know who made this decision and the reasons why.

To drive the base and completely optioned price down of course. Yet another reason to not buy a first model year car.

Keep the base price down maybe but the fully optioned price? Never even seen that quoted anywhere.

And you never will, but if the GLK and Q5 are all available fully optioned for $50K and the X3 fully optioned is $55K, which one do you think people will buy?

Most people don't read the options list, they just buy the "fully loaded" one and drive away. This is what the Marketing teams are banking on and adding options raises the price and their foothold against the competing brands.

Like I said before, they will probably come next year or will be rolled into the M Sport package like they were in the previous generation. M Sport package buyers are usually die-hard BMW buyers and will pay whatever it costs before going to MB or Audi.

yeah that makes sense.

However to not have these items available as options in just stupid.

Once again BMW has it wrong.

TBH, I don't know much about the US market and a lot of the US orders I see on this site have big specs. I think it works differently in the UK. I doubt anyone has bought an X3 here with every available option.

It's the strange country to country differences that I don't understand. E.g. we can specify a Cold Weather Package (including heated rear seats) and Canadian customers can't??? The average daily temperature in the winter here is about 7C (45F). I have heated front seats in my car and I have used them about 10 times in nearly 5 years.

Yes exactly. I would have paid for heated rear seats and even M-sport had it been available at the time of my order. To me, it's just less money that they could've made.

I do understand thought that by changing things every year (and BMW is REALLY good at this), they can keep new/potential customers attracted. Too bad it's gotta be this way.

They seem to put a fair amount of attention into how they divide key options across the option packages here in the US. In the past when most options were also offered individually, to get the options I really wanted I'd pay nearly what the packages cost so it was easier to get to a decision to pay relatively little more to also get another handful of nice-to-haves. So this time when I ended up with every package and only passing on a couple of options, I wasn't too terribly surprised!

I'd previously thought that it might also have something to do with production efficiency, but that idea doesn't seem to hold water considering their ability to generally handle customization on the line, but also to handle all the different option sets they've defined for the different markets.

Do you thing BMW Canada will add those options as regular order in the next months?

I believe its $400 per order, not per option, for special order items.
