Anyone running on 235/55/18 tire size

Has anyone switched to 235/55/18 tire size? Change in diameter would be 2.2% I have read up to 3% difference is okay for the sensors. I want to increase the side wall abit and found tires running wider than average so the tread width would be even more than the stock pirelli's 245's. Thoughts?

235 is not wider than 245 - Can you rephrase the question?

The tread of 235 Firestone Indy 500 is wider than the tread of 245 RFT Pirellis our vehicles come with according to Tire Rack at least, but that is irrelevant to me. I just care if I would have any problems running this size tire 235/55/18. Thanks!

I can't give you first hand experience but I feel pretty confident that small of a change would be meaningless. We've got a lot of room in our wheel wells and it's unlikely BMW would be willing to cut anything that close on anything other than a race-bred M3 or something.

I've been looking into another set of wheels off and on for the last few months and people are getting away with bigger tires (255's) and some big offset changes (=/- 10mm or more) and still not having problems. Not combined but either / or.

Any chance you can test fit the tire or get a guarantee from the seller / installer?

Also, even if the tire width in reality is a bit off from the stated size, the profile (i.e. 45, 50, 55) might still be right on compared to that stated size.

Not 235's but I switched to a slightly taller tire than stock recently. Went to 245/55/18's and they are fine, no issues. I wanted to correct my speedometer as it used to read slightly faster than actual speed, also wanted to fill in the wheel well a bit better. These did the trick.

That is exactly what I want to do too. Did you put summer or all season tires? Thanks!

I usually get my tires from Discount Tire so I will check what they can do for me thanks!

The speedo reads slightly faster (about 2 mph) than actual speed by design. There is a regulation that the speedo cannot under report the speed so that the driver thinks they are driving the legal speed limit but they are actually exceeding it. To prevent that, BMW (and many other manufacturers) set everything up so that the vehicle is going slightly slower than indicated on the speedo.

Couple of pics attached. They're actually winter tires, I replaced the old RFT's with them and had planned to get a set of aftermarket 20" rims and tires but just never did and left these on year-round. They're Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GS-2's.

I've had them on for about 15,000 miles now and they don't show much wear. They run nice and smooth at speed, they're a bit rougher at lower speeds during turns when those teeth on the sides hit the pavement.
