'charge battery' ???

i DID, but keep getting same junk on dash, on shut down. Even used a better-than-average charger for several hours. 2011 vehicle, so it IS 6 years old.

may try an E-sys fault re-set also.

regards, Dan

You need a new battery. Six years is a long time.

Or you could replace your battery as stated above. Same thing happened to my 2011 and a new battery cured it.

Approve of the battery swap recommendation as well. No need to get an overpriced OEM battery either.

You are lucky to have stretched the OEM battery life to 6 years actually. The norm is about 4 years, maybe less depending on your use case (short trips, car unused for extended periods, heavy use of hungry accessories such as heated seats, rear window defogger, etc.)

check to make sure your system is charging your battery properly, the infamous oil filter housing gasket has claimed my belt (and possibly alternator) causing the battery not to charge.

The 2011 X3 35i I bought 2 weeks ago, is loaded with options, and has displayed charging issues, which have cleared, after one stop and start cycle. I ahve used battery chargers on and off during the last week, but my X3 seem not to like the obsolete charger Im using.

The load issues were mostly caused by my learning process of the car, ie: not being careful while exploring accessories , exploring Idrive options, NAV map update, while the engine was off.

After a bit of poking around, in the forums, I may be in the same boat as the OP, that is, my car battery is rapidly approaching the end of the road. I assume it is the original unit that came with the car, but I cant say. Maybe a tool like INPA might reveal its age...

Wish I could tell how old the battery is for sure. The PPI (Pre-Purchase Inspection) and maintenance records at the dealership did not reveal anything wrong with the battery or charging system, or stray electrical devices not going to sleep mode properly...

I went ahead and ordered an AGM specific smart battery charger, and portable compact jump starter to always carry around.

Again, this vehicle has so many options that could potentially drain the battery for devices not going to sleep mode properly or quickly, and very cold weather extremes we get here in Quebec, Canada. After some research, Youtube torture tests, and for my peace of mind, I pulled the trigger on these goodies:

Jump Starter: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Smart Battery charger: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Next step is purchasing fresh and powerful AGM car battery (aftermarket).

Can't say enough good things about the quality of this CTEK MUS 4.3 unit, and its adaptor cables.

I decided to semi-permanently attach the quick disconnect ring terminal cable to my charge poles under the hood (battery is in the trunk).

The cable itself has a rubber protective cap to prevent dirt from reaching the electrical contacts when not in use. Simple, but just well through out and well engineered all around. The charger is small but still delivers 4.3Amps. It has 8 phases of charging, testing, conditioning , and maintaining your battery. Check out the pics and video I shared below.

Our 2012 battery is fine at present but as we only use it now for on longer trips we sometimes dont run it for 10 days or more - we always get a battery warning after 8 days or so we have a Smart Charger which works like magic... and we do seem to be getting good life out of the battery..
