The bins are not wrapped in leatherette at least on a US F25 35i. It's plastic with texture. I don't mind it at all, but it's plastic. If I had my pick, the interior would be lined to reduce rattle.

Not a picture of the bin, but you can see the bin fairly well.

The hard plastic looks purple? I noticed the bit between the bins and the armrest looking purple-brown in the sun.

Well, I guess my eyes must be different. I can struggle to get an impression of green there, but just a bit . . .

I wonder what kinda beating those lower door panels will take over time. Having them made from a material that scratches, scuffs or tears easily would have been bad for me.

Found them useful today.
Still at GSP airport reliving the performance delivery program today. I found my left calf braced against the floorboard and the hard plastic doors doing the slalom course today. (They may be useful after all)

I am currently driving a demo X3, my current car is a pre LCI E90 and I have concluded that the car is a little bit of a quality compromise. The plastics are poorer quality compared to the e90, I would even say that the general welding looks lower quality (although I think this is done by robot). I was also surprised to see the bottom of the doors look like they have been welded by my 3 year old.
Would I buy one, overall I would and probably will, like I say overall the cost of the car looks about right for what you get. |

While I doubt the plastic door bins will be a deal breaker for anyone it's a shame to see BMW cheap out like this, not to mention the plastic seems very out of place. I'm not sure how much it would cost to use a better type of plastic or to simply cover the plastic with a plush material but hey the bean counters must be happy. While Mercedes might cheap out in other places the door bins are nice and are covered in the same cloth and soft material as their interior's roof, I only wish that BMW would do the same.

+1 Forget Mercedes, even my VW Golf's door bins were covered in the same material used for the roof! (I think). Sort it out BMW.
I wish no-one had pointed this out to me as I now notice them every time I use them. Never a deal breaker though as mentioned

Here a picture of the hard plastic in the sun, you can see the difference between the black from the armrest and and the bin. You can see the brown-purple shine, it's difficult to put it on a picture you see it better in real. |

There is one good thing about the CHP. It's very easy to clean. I'm guessing it's also cheap to replace. Wonder if any third party manufacturers will make a replacement?
