octane stuff

I started out using premium which costs about 40 cents more a gl, worked fine, went to midrange, which is 89 octane and what the car calls for, still fine, didnt really notice a descrease in performance or mileage. Last couple fillups I used the cheap stuff, (well not really cheap) which is 87 octane, and havent noticed either a descrease in performance or mileage. I talked to a guy who puts 87 octane in his since it was new and he has about 40k miles on it and says its fine. I wonder do you really need the super premium in this car?

If you have a I6 28i then you will be fine with 87 octane, all you will lose is some high end power. If you have a turbo charged engine, I would stick with at least 89 octane.
