Hi folks,

Neighbour and I replaced the rotors and pads on my 2012 x3. However, the warning light for replacing pads remains on. Anyone know how to turn it off or reset it??

thanks!

figured it out... gotta love youtube. Procedure is : seat yourself with seatbelt on. press start button once. wait a minute. then press and hold odometer button until center display shows reset options.... chose the one and the way you go.

Brake sensor reset

I have had the brakes and sensor replaced, but still get the warning light for the rear brakes. I follow procedure to reset it, but it displays "reset impossible". I had the sensors replaced but still same message. The front sensors reset fine.

can we bypass the sensor, perhaps splice the cables and create a closed circuit. anyone done this for the 2012 X3

Biggest cause of new sensors not resetting, is a bad sensor even though it's new. Trying plugging your old sensor back in if you still have it and it's not worn. My rear sensor was new , but would not reset. Mechanic who installed the pads told me that almost all new sensors that will not reset are defective.

I've read in forums for other BMW model owners, especially those who race, of bypassing the sensor my cutting the "head" off and twisting the wires together to complete the circuit. Not for sure if this would work on F25. Mechanic mentioned something about the sensor was "magnetic". I don't know if this is true or if it is the magnetic acts like a generator causing a current; or is the current cause by the battery system.

The old sensor was worn out and caused the initial light warning as the pads thinned out. After replacing the pads i put in the new sensors, and the front reset worked fine but not the rear. How can I check if the new sensor is defective or faulty ? If I return, they probably will not exchange it and i would have to buy a new one with no guarantee it is defective. I put an ohm meter reading across it and it has shown no resistance...

Ohm meter check is what I would have suggested. Of course make sure connection is clean. You might try searching other model BMW forums. When I had the problem of no reset, I did a search on it and found I wasn't alone. I have a vague recollation of someone with the same problem of having to plug the sensors in a certain order. You might try jumping the connection.

Guys, just received new sensors today. Measured on the desk. Value is 0 ohms. And physically looks exactly the same as all the sensors used so far mor thean 10 years back. There is not reason to think about additional resistors, electronics etc. inside.
If sensor is ok and reset cannot be performed, there is question how car's ECU dealing with those signals.

We'll wait for the ohm readings for old sensors if worn to first alert or more. This will verify my mechanics and other BMW owners sensor design description.

If you have a multi meter would be interesting to know if you induce a current in the sensor

I still have few mm's on my pads. Expect finish in 2-3 months. Will post here for sure.

I am having this same issue. No matter what I do, i can't get it to reset - always says "reset impossible". Even tried resetting it with rheingold and th light just comes right back. Sensors and pads are new, Rheingold confirms sensor status is "OK". Anyone have any more ideas?

Exclamation Same Problem

I am having the same problem too. Except I am having it with my front brake pads. I put in the new sensor, cleared the fault codes. But the front brake pads warning lights still came right back on. Could anyone help me?

Exclamation

Make: BMW
Model: 316i
Year: 2013

I replaced the front brake pads and rotors, along with the brake wear sensor. However, I encountered the warning message in red text:
"Brake system."
"Drive moderately"

On the iDrive screen, the following warning message appears:
"Continue journey at a moderate speed. Brake pads need to be replaced. Have brake pads checked by Service."

Then, when I tried to reset the front brake pads km counter by pressing down the trip reset button, the following message in yellow text appears:
"------ km"
"Reset not possible"

Photos showing the new front brake wear sensor are attached to this post.

Could anyone help me to solve this problem?

I didn't have this problem at all when I replaced the rear brake pads and rotors.

Happened to me and it turns out I did not fully seat the connections in the junction box inside the wheel well. It is a tight fit and just pushed harder until the plugs sat well
