Sport mode vs sport mode

Um ... so I only just found that moving the Eco Pro button thing to sport mode is completely different to moving the auto box into sport mode. It becomes a different car altogether. Moving from a 2011 to an LCI I was slightly underwhelmed with the 2.0d engine performance (although it's very quiet and economical). Now I know why. Change the centre console button thing to Sport and the whole car becomes a different beastie. Mwa ha ha ha haaa.

In my 2013, Sport mode on the gear shift feels the same as Sport mode on the centre console button. Perhaps they have coded the gearbox differently?

With the LCI the sport button makes a massive difference, especially to gear shifts. Quite unlike my 2011.

If I knock the gear shift to Sport mode then the gear changes are noticeably different but that's all. Put the centre console button into sport mode and it feels like much more changes - the steering feels a lot lighter for a start (but in a good way). The car suddenly handles like a sports saloon. The only downside is that the reported mpg looks like it suffers pretty badly (but it's so much FUN!)

That is correct, the steering will change if you push the sport button but not the DS mode in the shifter. If you have the adaptive suspension option, the suspension will tighten up as well. As far as acceleration, DS mode with the shifter will increase the shift point rpm and the sport mode button will increase the shift point rpm as well as change the throttle map to a more aggressive one.

I don't think the car gives max boost (and hence max HP/torque) if you're not in sport.

I don't have any quantitative evidence to back it up, but comparing wide-open-throttle in Sport to wide-open-throttle in Comfort, I swear sport is still faster. There also seems to be a lot less turbo lag.

The gear-shifts are much faster in Sport than they are in Comfort with the shifter in the M position. They also feel more abrupt due to being so fast. Eco-pro has the smoothest shift programming, but that's mostly because it sucks.

Sport mode on the rocker panel makes a world of difference on my car. I usually drive in sport mode and everything is better in that setting... except for my 19.8 MPG.

I agree!!

Except I find myself pulling the up-shift paddle quite a bit as it hesitates to shift ... Not a bad thing, as hesitating to upshift means it's more responsive, but sometimes you just want that higher gear.

Also, I drive mostly urban/suburban in light-to-medium traffic and I barely hit 19.8 mpg on a good day in Comfort... In Sport it's more like 16.

both do max boost. It's just in sport mode the max boost comes sooner.

Eco-pro is actually my favorite mode though, smooth, quick upshifts and it just rides on a big wave of torque. Once you know how to work the padel it is quite responsive in local driving (no more unnecessary downshifts like in comfort mode). But i do have a 35i engine, sport mode is overkill for me in my commute.

From my observation, the standard "Comfort" mode was also remapped on the LCI so it is more aggressive to begin with.

Yup! It sits on those high RPMs for about 5-10 seconds and then shifts.

What OP is talking about is Sport Mode vs. Manual Mode. They are totally different.

Sport Mode is when you press the "Sport" button, and it changes the throttle and transmission response and steering stiffness.

Manual Mode is when you pull the shift lever to the left. It only allows you to shift car by yourself. The throttle, transmission and steering still remains in the mode that you're currently in (eco pro/ comfort/ sport).

Now, Sport Mode + Manual Mode = waken up the car

But.....moving the lever to the left and using auto mode (not manual) changes the shift points to be more sporty. This is shown on the lever as M/S or Manual/Sport.

I believe M/S is Manual Shift, not Manual Sport. The only thing it does is allowing you to shift at whatever rpms you want. Leave the car in Eco mode and change the shifter to M/S, see if you feel any sportiness.

It does feel more sporty because with the shifter to the left you're at least one gear ratio lower than in the default mode. BTW manual shifting at your desired rpm is not the only thing it does. It gives auto shifts with significantly higher shift points than default mode. If yours doesn't do this get it to a dealer to fix it.

M/S on the gear selector must be Manual/Sport surely as when you do that the dash changes to show S+Gear Number. That would read to me as Sport1 not Shift1 etc.

To me the sport button seems to tighten up the entire car so less body roll and I dont have VDC. Its a shame you cant have sport mode and leave the gear changes per comfort / D mode.

Not M/S but shown as DS mode if you move the shifter to the left and do not up shift or down shift.

Until you actually shift, it's "S" (or sport) mode. Once you shift even once, it's stuck in manual and won't go back to sport unless you go back to "D" and then back to "M/S"

I can confirm 100% that, based on the manual, and experience driving in this mode, that M/S is "Manual / Sport", not Manual Shift.
