Question for High Mileage Drivers- When you get your air filter replaced - First Time
Recently( at 35 K miles now) getting very low mpg - 13-16 first say 10 miles in the morning ( cold outside in Boston) . This is very different from same time last year ( at 14k miles) with same environmental conditions, same 93 octane fuel but balder tires. Wondering ( no rationale) if air filter could be an issue.

A really dirty air filter will simply give you less power and better gas mileage, because less air is able to get into the engine and the computer will likewise allow less fuel. That's because the computer will always want the correct mix or air and fuel at all times.

It could be your 02 sensors, spark plugs, fuel injectors and I agree with you on the air filter. I'd start with those but your mileage isn't that high for any of those to be changed except for the air filter. From everything I've read, the air filter should be done at 30,000 miles max.

Air filter are cheap, and easily overlooked, and make a HELL of a difference to the performance of the engine. Learned my lesson on my previous car.
