Winter Alloys & Tyres for M-Sport

Hi,
Just thinking in advance a little bit considering the almost Winter weather we are currently getting in the UK.

I currently have the 369 19" alloys on my M-Sport.

I was thinking of purchasing a full set of Alloys and Run Flat Tyres for the Winter.

I was considering doing this rather than the difficulty of trying to get some Winter Tyres for the 369's which I guess would not work too well anyway because of the tyre width.

I was mainly interested in finding out the best place to buy these from and roughly how much any of you paid? Along with the style you used.

Also did you put 17"s on the M Sport or 18"s?

Thanks

I bought 18" 307 RFT Dunlop SP2 Winter Sport from a BMW dealer for £2200 - delivery and fitting is £30 each time (£60/year) - although they tried to charge me double last time despite £30 being agreed. I got them for going skiing in Europe but there is a small chance they might come in handy in Berks. We had one day of snow in total last winter and it was mild the following day so no ice.

It's a lot of money if you don't get much snow but you can justify the cost a little bit more by the fact that the tyres themselves are about £1200 and you'll be saving on your summer tyre wear each time you put on your winters so if you keep the car long enough to see out 8 tyres it's only the extra cost of the alloys.

The other plus is that it gives you an opportunity to clean and wax the wheels that they take off and also to rotate them - although I can't rotate my summer tyres are staggered 309s

Garage List
I bought a second hand set of E53 X5 wheels from a friend for £100. The offset is the same as the F25 and they look fine, I also have Dunlop Wintersports fitted ready for winter.

If you go this route you will need to change the tyres to F25 size to get the rolling radius correct.

I chose 17" winter alloys. In fact it's a point to choose quite narrow wheels for winter to retain that precious grip (just watch the WRC guys' equipment when wringing it out on snowy & icy roads - the wheels look like something borrowed from a wheelbarrow). A bit more rubber to smooth out rough winter roads is also wise to consider in my opinion. Does it look good on my M sport? Depends, but I really cannot say that the weels look out of place. And safety of driving is more important to me during winter than appearance anyway.

But of course our Nordic climate is a bit more demanding compared with what you UK guys experience.

NordicBMW, what 17" wheels did you get?

I wonder if they would fit over the brakes on a 35i?

BMW list price for mine is £1500 - I have ordered them and will change over in october. for £30 its worth it to store them too!
Yes you get the "extra" life and its more about low (under 7 degs C) temperture performance then wet or snow.
The extra safety is why Im getting them.

304 with regular winter tyres, no run flats. Don't know if they will fit the 35i brakes, I drive a 20d.
