Just bought my pre-owned 2011 X3 25i, and calipers are in pretty rough shape. Like you, I'm seriously considering refreshing them. This is a big undertaking if you intend to do a proper job, which is to unmount them from the car, clean the rust off/polish them/get to at all nooks and crannies, followed by several layers of high temp primer, paint, clear coat , then back on the car, bleed brakes, etc. Caliper paint job will never look as nice and finished if done while still mounted on the car. A couple of videos out there to give you the guidelines of both approaches. To reduce down time, I even considered buying full set of used calipers in recycler/scrap yard, and refinishing those at my own pace, and over the period of a couple of week-ends, then mount them on the car, and try to offload/sell my original calipers, or refresh them too before selling sell them at a slight profit, to cover costs ... Choices-choices-choices ... LOL

It's a really nice upgrade!
I wouldn't do it myself, i live in a condo and don't have the proper stuff to do it so i want it done properly. I booked an appointment beginning of may with guys that do high end cars here in Toronto. This is what it entails: Package: 1. Complete Grinding of Calipers/Rotors to Remove Rust & Corrosion which Prevents it from Re-occurring. 2. Any Choice of High Heat VHT Caliper Paint 3. Front/Rear Caliper Decals with “Make/Model" Logos. 4. Clear Coat Seal to Prevent Chips/Fading 5. Glossy Shine for Finished Look! and i think i changed my mind - going to go with this... image hosting 10mb limitcertificity.com - on my car (just freshly cleaned and shined my tires) image upload no adscertificity.com Quote:

Now you got me thinking... my brother says i should do blue but i think it would stand out too much.
My choices are White (if it wasnt a PITA to keep clean) Black or silver. This was my 2nd choice free screen capture softwarecertificity.com |

Considering the same on my X4 (or future X4 M40i). I would consider blue, but not sure yet, so curious to follow how you guys are going to do this.
Will follow his thread for sure !

Any other takers?
I have an appointment in a week and i can't decide. People are persuading me away from white. I'm leaning towards AMG silver type posted above. |

Nice! Got mine done, ended up doing a midnight blue color, i love it
(If in any of the images it turned out brighter blue, its just the lighting, its a deep blue in person) Removed, machined and got all the rust off, and painted the hub black and protected it. photo share |

I washed the car and did a tire shine, didn't do anything special with the brakes, they look just like when i got them still - they look even better now with the tires nice and clean...will snap a photo soon.
