400 plus miles on N20

Congrats. As unhappy I was in last winter in Boston with winter fuel mix and snow and slush getting only 16mpg with 2 dealers visits, last memorial weekend round visit to Franconia knotch and Kancamagus hwy loop gave me hope.
420 miles in considerable elevation. I luv my N20 on highways and warm weather- not cold neither "hot".

We sold our last two cars because the mpg was under 30 around town and got the X3... but over here it costs $100 to fill up a tank!

I posted this over bimmerfest. Not 400 miles but very happy based on my fears.

Just thought I would share our initial Mileage results with folks. I have mentioned in other posts that we are normally restricted to city driving only. Initially we were considering an X5 but I read too many posts regarding 12MPG that we quickly ruled that out. We probably would have picked the X3 as it is really the perfect size for 2 folks with city driving and parking.

First 170 Miles. City driving with an average speed of 16MPH.

MPG = 14.8

Next 220 Miles. Strictly highway with and average speed of 72MPH.

MPG = 24.8

I am actually very happy with these results and hoped for the city results and actually getting better than I expected on the highway. Based on reading here, it looks like it will get slightly better after 4-5,000 miles.

Our former AWD CR-V only averaged 17MPG in the city and 25mpg on the highway. Currently have 500 miles on it and everything esle so good so far.

12 must be the v8 x5, my 2011 35i X5 did 19 in normal commuting highway, city, stop and go combination traffic and on long trips would do 24-25 with the family and go nearly 500 miles on a tank!

Does the N20 version have a smaller tank than the N55 version - my 35i goes 420-450 a tank highway!

Oh just noticed you still had almost 3 gallons left - you should make it over 450!

No it was the 35i. Straight city though. Most say city and they are driving 30 mph. That is not city. City is stop and go not over 15-20 mpg. I'm getting nearly 15 mpg so makes sense if I had an X5 which is approx 900 pounds more I would be 12-13 mpg

So yeah, at the end of the day I could only get to 414 miles on a tank with 1.4 Gallons left, I really didn't want to push my luck because to where I commute on that day had a fair long hill that I have to climb up that I don't want to end up no gas thus rolling in reverse,
Plus the nearest gas station after the hill is about 5-7 Miles away.

Dude, the X5 has like 24 or 27 gals in a tank lol compared to the X3 which has 17.7 :rofl:

Ya - X5 tank was huge, cost a fortune to fill up, but was awesome on a trip - never had to stop for gas - think it was 24 or 25 gallons, but X3 still has great range compared to other SUV's and cars!

I think you should have used £100 not $100 to fill up . I was almost on empty the other day and put in £93. An empty tank fill up at the motorway services would be £100=~$155 (USD) :

Fortunately I'm not a big personal mileage user.
BTW- I was getting over 55mpg through the 50mph road works section on the M25. Not bad for a 3.0D
