Instructions for removing X3 glovebox.
To complete my stereo upgrade, I had to remove much of my passenger and driver trim to access some electrical and to provide wiring for my fine tune controls. I had not seen any posted information on removing the glovebox to get good access to the electrical panel buried deep behind it, and otherwise only accessed by a small opening through the glovebox.
I've attached two images to show the relatively simple steps to remove the passenger foot well panel and then the glovebox. |

Good example of an excellent, well-documented DIY instruction, sure to appreciated by many facing the same task. Nice job!

I hve been trying to find instructions on how to remove the glove box in my 2014 F30, with very little success. Are these X3 instructions compatible with the F30? Also, where are you able to source these diagrams from?

Sorry to bump this old thread but the images posted above don't make the answer to my question too clear.
Does anyone know how to remove just the glove box door? The leatherette like material that covers the actually body of the glove box door on my wife's X3 has started to separate. I let it go for too long and it's now to the point that half of the cover is peeling off. The indent around the latch is going to be the hardest part to get right. I was hoping to just remove the door and the completely remove the cover material, put a good epoxy coat on the whole thing and then put a loosely packed sand bag on top to hold the whole cover in place and fill in the latch indentation as it dries. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Im in the middle of trying to fit a dashcam using a power magic pro.
I found that removing the bottom trim on the flovebox and then the access hatch inside the glovebox gave me enough access to the fuses......now to find which ones I need! |

Finding screws, glueing glove box cover
Just got through doing this. A few things took me some time to figure out.
1. The two torx screws on the bottom front are up and immediately behind the hinges. Not easy to see unless you're upside down under the dash. The screws are T-20's 2. The glove box light wire plug simply pulls out, but it takes some effort. 3. The USB cable's plug has a locking clip on it that is in the worst possible place (along the side), and it needs to be released with a small screwdriver to get it out. 4. I found it easiest to push the hinge pins out with a screwdriver, since I couldn't get a good grip on them with pliers. 5. I glued the separating door cover in the channel with Loctite Plastic Epoxy after roughing up the surface of the channel with a rat tail file. Looks like it's going to hold. The glue takes some time to set hard, so I did it in 3-4" segments over a few days, starting from the bottom and working around the left side. Clamped it down each time and gave it 24 hours to set hard before moving on. |

Didn’t see this until now. Sorry. I ended up just saying “screw it” and had a body shop replace the whole glove box door with a new OEM part for a few hundred bucks. Soon after I posted my question the car had to go in to the shop anyway to repair damage from a someone slamming their car door into our driver side rear door.

2011 BMW X3 2l diesel auto.
I read and view the photos with much interest about removing the glove box. I wish to replace the front cigarette lighter. I believe it is fuse 65 but my info book does not confirm this. Anyway, I have taken out all the screws mentioned in your report but I have a 'butterfly' shaped catch stopping me from pulling the box out. It looks as though this butterfly catch should turn 45 degrees to allow me to pull the box but I just cannot turn it with pliers etc. Anyone can help? |

Hi again,
Ignore my previous query. I now find that the 'butterfly' catch is actually part of the balanced hinge of the glove box door. I do have a question. I only have the card which was stuffed into the rear fuse area to tell me the number and size of the fuses. What I want to know is, what is the number of the fuse for the front cigarette lighter, which I guess is at least 20 amps. |

Glove Box Removal Instructions for 2011-2017 X3?
Hello Folks
New to the forum. Been searching for some time. Are these glove box removal instructions for a 2011-2017 X3? I have a 2011 X3 and the glove box is peeling. Out of warranty, and I am just looking for removal instructions for this generation so I can clamp and re-glue. I have found instructions for older models on the site, but not specifically for this generation. Thanks! James Quote:
