Sensitive question - in Southern Africa apparently BMW may be scanning forums to try and identify owners who mod their vehicles. Any why you can be PM'ed? Regards.

That's nonesense , how on earth could they identify specific cars and people on the forum unless we starting putting our real names and registration numbers and country as our usernames ! Come on ..,!

Although I don't doubt that they look on the key fob readout for errors or anomalies and consider whether they are as a result of the owner having chipped their car, I very much doubt any dealership trawls the forums trying to identify owners. I'm not sure it would even be legal for a company to do that in the UK. It would also probably be cheaper to just fix the fault under the warranty than employ someone to spend time analysing forums

In the US modification does not void the warranty. Sure, the dealers would like you to believe that, but see here:

trust me it does void your warranty on that part or effected parts i have read few threads about it coming from e90post where members look for mod friendly dealerships.

It shouldn't unless they can prove that a modification breaks something.

you are correct and it becomes a battle between you and the dealership and car is still not fix...

the only way to do it if the chip is plug n play and be removed at anytime

also having a chip or tune may leave codes that dealership can detect them
