Which Instrument cluster do you get in Australia

Guys,

Those of you with your cars delivered already in Australia...

Which instrument cluster did you get? (preferrably in the 30d M SPort if it makes any difference)

The simple analog one (albeit in Km/hr) with a small central LCD screen or the Electronic one with the efficient dynamics extended LCD display from the new 5 series.?

From my understanding,
You get the "simple" instrument cluster if you don't have nav or just business nav (the one that has 6.5" iDrive screen)
You get the "more complex" instrument cluster if you have pro nav, or the advanced HDD-based entertainment system (the one that has 8.8" iDrive screen)

That said, I noticed the second picture has "Battery OK - 84%" message, I wonder if i can check battery charge level if I only have the simple instrument cluster?

This is correct. You get the better dash only with the large iDrive screen (tech package or pro nav usually)

This is one of the main reasons I upgraded from Business Nav to Professional Nav. Will confirm when I get my car in a few weeks.

U'll also get the 2nd one if u order HUD, regardless whether it has Navpro or not (same as on the F10).

Thanks guys.
The pro nav trick explains it.

The 30d sports I test drove had basic nav and the simple instruments.
I have ordered pro nav so I will look forward to the high tech one.
The brochure doesn't seem to mention that there are two instrument clusters to pick from.
It only shows the hi tech one.
I can imagine some buyers would be disappointed.

Yeh, another reason to go with the Pro Navi.
Pitty most of the dealers did not know and wont tell you..
Got it on my 30d mSport and love it. HUD too is a must have.

Do you really think it's that good and not just a cool gimmick? I would like to try it out as I've never driven a BMW with HUD. Have been put off a bit by people saying you can't use it with sunglasses and that it's not as customisable as it should be - limited info and sometimes distracting. Presumably you disagree

I've tried the Hud in a 535i and an X5 40d. Useless in the daytime when you wear polarized sunnies (a must in Queensland) and too bright a distraction at night.
Not worth a cent in my opinion.

Yep, that's kind of what I've heard from other people. I don't think I'll be adding it in the future unless it's improved significantly. Also means you can't get UV windscreen which I wanted. Opinions differ in western Oz!

I didn't think we were allowed to get anything on our windscreens on Oz imported cars because of the ADRs?
Except the obligatory green or grey strip at the top edge behind the sun visors.
Anyone know the facts?

Well I disagree totally with u guys on the HUD it's awesome I've never seen or tried it but I optioned it on our 30d m sport and have to say day or night it's saved my licence more than once as my speed is always in view. I thought when I ordered the car the sales manager said it's a must and for resale even better ??????

HUD - had it on the X5M and didn't order on the X3. One of the very few options I left out. Why? Because missus finds it too distracting especially night driving. Personally I love it, especially on the X5M where it also has rev counter. This isn't available on non-M cars I believe.

Windscreen - I also had the UV protection option for the front windscreen. It is an option on most BMWs these days I think, or at least on the higher end ones.

I'm sure the options in the UK used to be grey shade band only or climate comfort package which stops heating through the windscreen, but I can only see the climate comfort package now. It's definitely not compatible with HUD.

Would be particularly handy in hot climates. Difficult to tell how effective this is for me because of the summer we've had!

Read compatible as you cannot spec an X3 in the UK (and probably anywhere else in the world) with climate comfort grey shade HUD. You may be able to on other models but this is an X3 forum

I misunderstood you Sfax. I thought you meant the combination of HUD and climate comfort windscreen.
