Parking brake not fully effective
Hello!
I'm getting an error message saying "Parking brake not fully effective" on my F25. Is there something that I could personally check or do to fix it to avoid bringing the car to the mechanic? |

I don't think many auto parts store scanners will pick up any codes like that. They usually have OBDII scanners which is just engine/emissions related things. As to whether there is anything you can do, it depends on your skill level. First, set the brake with the engine off in a quiet place and listen for the electric motor sound, which lasts about 2 seconds. If you hear nothing, then the whole system is not working. If you hear it, get a helper to listen at each rear wheel to see if it works on both sides. If neither works, it may be a fuse. If only one works, check the electrical connections at the wheel.
