N20 timing chain, anyone?

Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone replaced the timing chain on the N20's?
2017 and up+

I know the older x3 models have timing chain issues, and the newer x3's do not.

But has anyone changed it? 2017 and newer X3's...

My 2017 x3 (N20) is at 96k miles (156,000KM).

I plan on changing the timing chain, guides and anything else required at 180k KM or 200k KM as I'm being told it will eventually need to be replaced.

completely stock.... I do not plan on tuning.

There are some very detailed videos on youtube. I don't think the job is any different for a 2017. But I would personally need something a lot more concrete than "I'm being told" before I would take on a job that significant. Depending on who I'm listening to, I could say "I'm being told" that the earth is flat.

Yes, I found a few videos on YouTube but those are all on the 2011-2016 x3's.
I just don't want to be the first to do it on a 2017 x3, unless someone else has done it.

A valuable, highly experienced BMW tech told me to do it soon. The timing chain can stretch is what I am being told. I believe this happens to all engines with a timing chain. I prefer an engine with chain instead of rubber belt (IMO).

I believe I can check the timing chain stretch via ISTA?
