2014 X3 28i water leak issue

Hi,

My '14 BMW X3 28i has a water leak issue. When it rains water comes down through the driver side, close to the top of trunk button (picture below). Anyone can help me please where is the leak or what may be the solution? Thanks in advance.

How long has it done it? Since you have had the car or more recently? Ever had the windshield replaced? It could be coming from a number of places, but the least likely is the door seal. More likely are a plugged drain under the hood by the front cowl, or a bad seal at the base of the windshield. I'm not sure about the sunroof because I'm not sure where the water can go if the drains are plugged. But as a general matter the sunroof is a suspect for leaks.

Thank you, the problem I'm facing is almost 5/6 months & recently I had to change the windshield also. But it was a problem before the replacement also. It's true the seal is not as good now as it was before the windshield replacement. It leaks when there is heavy rain or rain consistently for hours or so.

Do you have a panoramic sunroof? I had this issue on the passenger side and the dealer said the drains were clogged and cleared them. They recommended seal replacement too but I haven't done it and it's been fine for over a year.

Yes, & I tried to clean the moonroof drains following YouTube video using some wire, but wasn't successful. For some reason it's water still moves very very slowly. Any advice how to unclog? I appreciate the help.

This was not a super-clear response. You had a windshield recently replaced and the windshield seal is now leaking and you are accepting that? How do you know it's leaking and where does that water come in? Why would you not take it back and demand they fix it?

I never said it's from windshield leak. I said I recently replaced the windshield also but the problem was well before that. As from few suggestions it might be from sunroof drain clog & I was also trying to clean that drain.

Sounds like the culprit. If it's not clearing quickly it's inevitably going to overflow.
Mine was done at the dealer so unfortunately, I don't know how they cleared it. They told me they "blew it out". It was cleared while I had another service so they didn't even charge for it, just diagnosing the leak (which was waived with the service).

Here's some more detail on the F25 specifically that might help?

Look down deep into the wells underneath and you'll see a body colour short hose jutting out into the well (difficult to see under the brake reservoir). These hose stubs are closed at the end with a one way flap. Open the sunroof and carefully fill the channel under the wind deflector with water. Then reach into each well and squeeze the hose stubs with thumb & finger. Hopefully there will be a satisfying splurge of gunky matter that was clogging the drain and the water with pour through. Repeat on the other side. I do this two or three times a year - very satisfying. Also stops the "damp dog" smell upon first opening the sunroof after rain. Don't overfill the channel under the wind deflector for obvious reasons.
I hope you can get it remedied!

Thank you so much, I'll try. Let's see what happens!
