Question about JB4 on X4 M40i

Would this work on my M40i?

https://www.amazon.com/Burger-Tuning...ywords=n55+jb4

OR

https://www.amazon.com/Burger-Tuning...NQ909K409438SX

Also if anyone knows which harness I need or if my car has a pneumatic or electronic wastegate please let me know!

I have researched all over Burger Tuning's website and found nothing related to the M40i except for the Stage 1, and the new quick install option they recently released.

Did you ever get a response. Last week both Burger and DINAN both told me that their base, sub 300 dollar, turbo tuner boxes won't do much for the X4M40i or M2 because the turbo and tuning was pretty much maxed out by BMW as far as boost and timing and still being reliable with OEM cooling and intake capability. DINAN was a bit more forthcoming than Burger which was appreciated, But for $300 and, uncommon for DINAN, no typical warranty, what can you really expect. They both said about 20-25hp. One problem is that neither of them have actually used a X4M yet and are speculating this on the M2 tuning they have done. If you live near DINAN they are looking for an X4M to use for a couple weeks and it will be to your great benefit.

Correct jb+ ($200) or Dinan+ ($300) wont do much because of a few reasons i wont go into much detail. I've been testing JB4 with Terry since early May, there's minor gains with 93 i will be creating my own thread in a few days since I've been in testing phases.

I've dyno'ed and raced at the drag-strip with JB4 map1, map2, map5, map7 in 93 octane and also with e85 blended in.. Do not recommend until proper firmware is out for these cars M2/X4 M40

Unfortunately I don't live near Dinan and their piggyback tune won't allow any flexibility that I have with a Flash(Custom Tuning tables). JB4 has pros/cons like everything and desperately waiting for a proper M2/X4 M40 firmware with support on our higher boost levels.

Any update on this?

Thinking of going M40 route and curious to see how well it tunes with a JB4.

Thanks

The gains in my stock X4 M40i with only jb4 are noticeable with good e85 otherwise, 93 octane and jb4 its just ok for daily driving. Also map5 does not work in our (auto-tune) due to our higher factory boost.
Map7 is only meant for 100+ octane or enough e85 to make your octane at least 98.

JB4 not worth it IMO, our cars run higher boost from factory and JB4 is meant for other N55s at this moment, unless they release a dedicated firmware that adjusts JB4 to X4 M40i or M2 (example) but at this moment none seem to be of interest; after months of testing since May and 3-4 firmware updates i am done; i have found my place now and i will be creating a VERY DETAILED thread in a few days or before year ends.

- Dyno with JB4 on Pump + Baseline (Done)
- Dyno with JB4 diff firmware and E85 blend + same day baseline (Done)
Working on :::
- Dyno with proTUNING Freaks Bootmod3 Flash on Pump Map
- Dyno with Bootmod3 Flash on E85 blend Map
- Dyno with EnzoRacing Custom Tune via Bootmod3 Map

Also 1/4 mile times with slips + videos with JB4 Pump, JB4 E85 blend against 335 JB4, M235 Flash Tuned, 335 GT Active8 tune, and Bootmod3 Flash.

I have been following your work both here n54 and YouTube...
Thanks for the effort put in. It's a shame they don't provide a firmware for the m2/m40i.

Look forward to your detailed write up.

I remember recently coming across a thread on Bimmerfest where someone did manage the JB4 to work on their X3 35i actually. Here's the link to thread:

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=954772

Maybe you can reach out to him and get more details; I presume it'd be a similar install on your m40i. I'd be curious to see if it's really possible since I definitely want to go up in power on my own x3 and I'd love to have that extra tuning capability the JB4 has.

Your vehicle would definitely have the electronic wastegate as all other N55 engines produced from 2013 if IIRC.

EDIT - Sorry, didn't notice that the question was already answered. I'm up a little too late tonight
