This is a good idea for a thread actually. But to better give perspective, you should include:

Trim level ordered: (28i or 35i)
Sport or non-Sport:
Optional staggered sport wheels?
Country of destination:

Like all manufaturers, BMW contracts with several vendors for tires, but only a few meet specs and on top of that, each may have their specialty tire that is best for a certain configuration, etc. This thread would compile data to see if there is a trend toward certain tires for certain configurations.

If I get an X3 I just hope to God I don't get Bridgestones. They suck.

In Southern Africa this is the OEM wheel on the X3 xDrive20d. Mine came standard with Dunlop SP Sport MAXX TT DSST 225/60R17 99V (RFT; made in Germany). In the past new nomenclature in tyres included "radial", "unidirectional", "asymmetric", "RFT", etc. Latest one seems to be "LRR" - low rolling resistance": googling some/all of the above terms did not yield satisfactory results. Closest I came as an alternative tyre was Pirelli P7 Cinturato - but although mentioning "LRR" - did not claim it specifically as such. In Sweden another spanner in the works may be "winter tyres"...I asked my dealer to let me know when a new F25 20D comes in - so that I can inspect the tyres as I would like to build a database for when replacement time comes. In May 2011 local dealer actually plans a "tyre day" - will see what info I can get there. Currently with the Dunlops I am happy - they obviously are "summer" tyres for our climate - but drove it in a recent cloudburst and cannot fault them. Regards.

Jan, what was the pricing in Nambia for the 20d? Can it run on 500ppm diesel?

+1

Keep in mind with all these different tire(tyre) sizes and wheel sizes, the overall diameter of tire and wheel is going to be about the same. Whether it's 17" or 18".
