Thank you all! I just bought a 2011 X3 35i (Mineral/oyster) with the staggered 19" 309's. Looking forward to it and to participating on this forum.

Contis are crap imho, they go hard and start to crack after a while.
Mine did at 18 months old.

I have had 3 sets in the last 5 years and all were shocking.

Continental Sport Contact 5's, they got noisy after after a few months, then Conti Winter Sports (something like T810?) and they were OK but not a very good snow tyre, compared with the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D I had on before they were very poor, and they were on a Quattro Audi where as the Winter Sport 3Ds were on a RWD Merc.

I then got my E350 and it came with Continental Sport Contacts again, they were fine for the first 3000 miles and then suddenly got really noisy, mine was an estate and the noise in the rear was ridiculous, I ended up putting a duvet in there to suppress the noise, it helped but you could still here massive tyre roar. I swapped over for Michelins and the noise was gone.

When I removed them they were really cracked, both sidewalls and between the treads. They were sent to Continental and they said I had left them out in the sun too long!! FFS!!!??
It is a car, and we are in the UK, hardly the sunniest place on the planet!

I will never buy another set of Contis again, at the time I did loads of research and so many people had the same problem, and many said they hadn't thought about it, just presumed all tyres get noisy as they get a few thousand miles in.

I had the P7 non run flat on my 17s on the X3, a very nice tyre.

The most impressive winter for me so far is the Dunlop Winter Sport 4Ds, ultra quiet, ultra comfy and so impressive in the snow. I did 600km in 6 hours from Dijon to Calais in pretty deep stuff, the two inside lanes were mostly covered in drifts, and while X5s and Q7s etc. were pulling over I whizzed passed them all in my RWD Merc.

Just make sure they are non run flat, all will seem excellent compared to any run flat.

BK guy to BK guy, go with the new conti's, P7's are crap IMO. Only pirellis worth buying are the high end ones that cost over 280 a tire. Any tire that is less than $200 is fkin garbarge for a BMW

EDIT: I see you are looking at the Grand Touring Version which is about 200 a tire. Still, bad, because handling is not good.

I have been dismayed with the ride quality and noise from these tires. I have used the older DWS previously, and these tires are NOT as good as the older DWS tire.

The P7's Will definitely be quieter, no doubt but from A straight performance aspect, I would go with the Conti's or Michelin's.

I have three places you could take it to one of them obviously is right around your corner Hilna tires which is on Stillwell and 86 street and then you have my guy Alex over at Repair On Wheels which is on Avenue F and McDonald Avenue, and you have my guy Alan at Bay Diagnostic which is on Gravesend Neck Road

Maybe that particular reviewer doesn't have good sound isolation because I drove a car with them on which was a 535 and they felt and sounded pretty decent

all 3 place seem closer to me, do they have wheel alignment machine?

do they sell tires too or is it just regular service?

Recently had new rims replaced under warranty dont want them scratched up while putting on new tires.

They all have wheel alignment of course, and only Hilna Sells tires and at decent prices too. They actually supply tires to a lot of the major dealerships in Brooklyn.

Take a look at the BMW reviews here:

I DON'T like this review on the conti's though, especially because this guy drives a 540i, so this review would scare me if I was considering the DWS 06 tires....

"In my opinion they are are miscategorized. Perhaps they should in the All Season TOURING category. They are genuinely great all season tires by I would not call them "performance" tires. They did pretty well in frosty conditions. I have not seen snow with these yet. They seem to do in the rain so far and wet traction is good. Dry traction is good but these tire are sloppy when pushed. If you really want to boogie on these tires you likely be a little disappointed."
