She's FINALLY here!! My Carbon Black X4 M40i

So after a very long wait and having to order a second M40i because of a freak hail storm at the Spartanburg Plant my car has finally made it home! I picked it up last night so I only had a chance to take some quick pictures this morning before work. I'll definitely take some better shots along with some interior shots over the weekend. I didn't open her up too much last night but this car is an absolute beast!

Very sweet! Really good pics as well.

I keep loving the m40i in dark colors..CB was my 2nd choice and I debated awhile over it as always have been a fan of it. I like the multiple colors it can show, reminds me of Audi's Panther Black. In the end I choose DG simply as I thought it was the best at hiding the rear diffuser.

Really like the 20" rims on the m40i and these pictures show them off well. Those staggered rears look mean lol.

Excited to see the interior as well as I went with Saddle and am very nervous...

Thanks! I'm very happy with how the Carbon Black looks on the M40i. I originally went with Alpine white which I have on my 335i right now but once I saw the CB in person I knew I had to make the change. Photos really don't do it justice. And don't be nervous about the Saddle brown haha! It's such a nice color and it makes the interior a lot more impressive with the contrast of the saddle brown and the black dashboard and lower interior.

Yeah we definitely have to get everyone in our area together and take some shots! Unfortunately I'm going to be away for the Captree Cruise. Keep me in the loop for any others!

Update: I know a couple of you asked for some interior shots of the Saddle Brown. The three I added were the best representations of Saddle Brown that I took.

Awesome color combo! Congrats for the purchase!
How do you like the car compared with your 335i in term of dynamics?

They're actually really close to each other. I have the Dynamic Handling Package on my 335i along with the M Performance Power Kit and M Performance Exhaust so it's actually a great car to compare with the M40i. If you didn't have those options on the 335i the M40i would have the upper hand by A LOT! in contrast.

The M40i steering does feel heavier (Which I love!) and is more reminiscent of the hydraulic steering in the older BWM's. You feel a little more body roll in the M40i because of it's size and height but it handles so well that you forget your in an SUV. Especially with the M40i coming with the Michelin Pilot Sports you're absolutely glued to the road.

Gorgeous car !!! Am thinking about the exact same combo to replace my 335i Xdrive this fall. Some questions if I may. How is the ride on those 20" wheels non RFT's ? Is it overly harsh ? I live in the city and the 19" RFT's on my 3 can be absolutely teeth shattering even on the smallest potholes.. Also since these are non RFT's, do they provide you with a spare or even a can of Fix-A-Flat or are you on your own should you blow a tire ? Thanks !

Thank you!! So I have the 19" wheels and the dynamic handling package on my 335i and I would say they feel about the same as the 20's do on the M40i. The M40i is a little better just because is doesn't have the run-flats. I don't know if you have the dynamic handling package on your 335xi but if you don't the M40i might even feel better because you get the adaptive suspension which helps absorb the bumps even more. I personally don't think it feels that harsh. Since you got the 19" on the 335 I'm assuming you care about the looks and the performance, if that is the case I would definitely recommend getting the 20" wheels. They really make the car! Plus with the 20" wheels you get the Pilot Sports which are fantastic tires and really hug the road when you're pushing it. In regards to the spare, you don't get one but you do get the M mobility kit for a temporary fix. I hope I answered your question and if you have any more please feel free to ask!

Thanks !!! That's great to hear. I do have the dynamic handling package on my current 3. Always tend to keep it in the sport mode as the comfort mode feels a little floaty for my tastes. That being said how is the cornering. My 3 corners like on rails in Sport mode. Obviously the X4 has a higher center gravity. Does it feel tippy ? How does the interior room and headroom feel compared to your 3 ? I know they are based on the same chassis but I'm sure that sloping roofline has got to cut into something. I'm 6'1" and never had a problem in my 3. And the quality of the Nevada leather. Is it about the same as the Dakota in the 3 or better/worse ? Thanks again for you help.

Tippy? It stays pretty darn flat, even more so in sport mode.
Interior room is a bit better than in a 3 series. My biggest gripe is just that the seat doesn't go low enough for my taste. Headroom is not an issue in the back seats. The angle and length of the rear bench may be a problem for tall adults on long trips but kids will be fine.

The Nevada leather feels about the same as the Dakota leather to me.

The cornering is fantastic for an mid size SUV. You honestly forget that you're driving one. Yes, there is a little more body roll in the car compared to our 335's but it really isn't that noticeable. The M40 is an absolute Beast! You're glued to the road and you have all the confidence in the world to take turns harder then you thought you could. I'm 6'2" and in the front you have plenty of head room and it feels a lot more open then the 335 does. The rear sinks in, like what GG said before and gives you more head room then it looks. With the slope back though it definitely doesn't feel as roomy as the rear of the 3 series and your rear window is extremely small which you have to get use to. As for the Nevada leather, to me it feels exactly the same as the Dakota leather.

+1

Coming from an X3 M-Sport and test-driving a 340 and 435GC before ordering my X4 M40i.. Made my decision easier, actually the X4 for me is roomier in the rear than 340 and lets not even mention the 435 GC i couldn't even get inside the rear door lol. But the X3 is def roomier in the rear seats as I can fit 4 adults but only 3 in the X4.

M-Sport car w/ standard suspension is good
M-Sport car w/ Dynamic Handling pkg or Damper Control suspension so much better
M40i car (retuned suspension, engine, brakes, etc) Leaps ahead of previous
