Got word today that my MY17 m40i is ready for production, which will be April as planned. Looking forward to seeing it in person, going to be a difficult wait!

Not a lot, basically wifi hotspot, wireless charging and the biggest change is idrive 5.0...so new nav screen, menu/buttons, and better screen resolution.

It's ridiculous that they're doing this but I believe all 2017 models lose the no-cost maintenance plan. So it doesn't cover brakes/pads/belts/wipers and clutches for manual cars anymore.

What is best way to find out current status in Canada, I also have a 17 M40i on order and have a production number.

They still get no-cost maintenance, it just excludes the items you mentioned now.

It's not a no-cost maintenance program anymore since it does not included everything. It's now a no cost Scheduled maintenance program. Also it's no longer 4 years 50,000 miles, they dropped it down to 3 years 36,000 miles. I've had BMW's for over 10 years now and that last year and the components that are now excluded can become extremely pricey. Just as a recommendation, you should see if your dealership has any allocations for a 2016 or see if there are any cars out there with the specs you want that they can swap in. Either way your getting an amazing car I'm just putting my two cents in since I was just dealing with this when I was ordering my M40i.

Oh ok, not that much different at all but that wireless charging would be a nice feature to have.

Right. BMW has long had exceptions to their no-cost maintenance policy for years now depending on what equipment you have (replacement carbon ceramic brakes being one of them that immediately comes to mind). I agree with you that it sucks to have them stop covering those parts (the free brakes in particular were highly useful to M car owners who tracked their cars, as you can burn through brakes in a hurry).

They also dropped transferability of the maintenance program to second owners as well this past year, so it only applies to new vehicle purchases.

That said, it's still more than other manufacturers provide.

And that's why I made sure I was #1 on my dealer's allotment to make sure I got a '16. Would much rather have the maintenance plan over the new iDrive.

Wow. Again I mention that my dealer said April production, you add two months for delivery date. (Therefore June). But you look like you will have yours in April? Apparently my dealer knows nothing. Although two other dealers as well told me June delivery for MY17s. I guess all three didn't know what they spoke of!

You should definitely get it sooner! The turn around time for the cars built in Spartanburg is usually very quick!

Also odd because I was told production started in April, yet by Vettrs posts he must have had a production date in March.

Forgot to answer this .... The way I tracked down my car was the following :

Before / during production you can call BMW Canada and using either your VIN or production number, they will tell you the status.

Once it has been released from the factory, I had to ask my salesman for the train ID and car #
Then you can call at : *800-235-2352
say location, then train ID : TTGX (or whatever yours is)
Car # : 691108 (or whatever yours is)
If it has trouble recognizing what you say, and it tries to transfer you to a human being, hang up. I don't think this service is for indirect customers like us... wouldn't want it to stop working or for them to ask for credentials. You can use the keys from your phone to enter the codes to make your life easier.

The system will give you the last city the train checked in at or left from.

Once it made it to montreal, I used the site lhf.com and with your VIN, you can track it from there to the dealership.

Hope this helps.
GG

I am now convinced my dealer was thinking in error that my m40i was coming from Germany..that might make more sense about 2 months from production day to delivery. Oh well, early summer treat because I cannot see mine now not arriving in May. Glad for this forum! lol
