M40i COLOR??

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to reach out to some of you bimmer folks on this topic. I understand the x4 is still a relatively pretty new vehicle into the market, and obvious the m40i being even newer.
The long beach blue color is obviously a signature color for the new m40i model. However my wife and I have previously ordered the LBB color and after physically seeing it at an autoshow in Toronto, she feels that it is too outstanding, not very conservative for a family/daily driving vehicle and more importantly she likes being more lower profile to the public therefore we have switched to Carbon Black.
I know there is going to be a handful of you (including myself) that will take the LBB blue over any color the m40i has to offer since it truly enhances the model and is its signature color, but I just wanted to have some feedback and what you guys feel about us switching it to a Carbon Black, after all you can't really go wrong with black right?

As some of you are hardcore Bimmer owners that have possibly owned all types of models/colors/exotic lines out there, do you feel that there are some degree of truth and validity in what she is bringing up?

Thanks for your time in reading this, hope everyone gets their vehicle asap!!

I personally would have ordered Alpine White, Silver or Dark Graphite over Carbon Black

I feel if you're ordering an M40i you should take advantage of a nice color, because its an M40i not a 28i or 35i (with all due respect to the 35). The M40i is a special kind of X4 and its meant to be what it is. M-Performance tuned, I had a hard choice as I really like my Alpine White X3 but after seeing the LBB in person in the X6 I said I had to have it

thanks for the response! Very nice pictures by the way, you have any more?

I kind of get the feeling that the LBB color, I will definitely get the likes of bimmer owners especially m40is and other M owners. With the being said, I also feel that with something like Carbon Black, I might be able to gain interest on a wider audience (other brand owners) since black is a color that you can't really go wrong with.

Color is a very personal choice. And while I won't be buying this generation of X4 for myself, I've seen LBB and it would be my color of choice...

Love the deep sea blue on my wifes X4 28i too.

I wont own a black car again, ever. It looks beautiful when clean, brutal to keep that way. So you can go wrong with Black, especially if you are anal about keeping your car clean (including swirls).

Yeah, i agree, lots of waxing and claying involved to maintain it. Yeah I wish the m40 had the deep blue sea as well, its a nice luxury color that isnt too exotic.

Hey what is Klappen?

ahfa, you have missed a lot

About a year ago BMW announced that M Performance had developed an aftermarket exhaust system for X4M 35i only. See discussion in: "Anyone installed Klappenshalldämpfer......... Klappen is, of course, a system with two flaps (R,L) to create two modes: Sport/legal and Track/non-legal.
I was not satisfied with sound nor looks on my car, so after some difficulties, I installed Klappen. Before that there was a video of a Russian car being tested with Klappen - see video in thread. Second video is with Sport and Track.
I am very happy with looks and sound - especially Track mode . System is made by Red Arch Engineering in the UK. Since very similar sound, they probably supply also M40i.
Sound is very similar to M40i - in Sport mode. In track mode - since illegal - Klappen is superior! ROBNYC disagree. Valves are operated by a button and internal wi-fi.

You can`t install Klappen, because M40i has two tubes to muffler - 35i has one.

I fully realise that M40i is superior in "everything else" - but you can`t take Klappen away from me .

Installation of H&R is discussed in "Lowered X4"

Yeah i did some research on the Klappen, seems pretty cool, almost as if there is a button in your car now that you press it and you car turns super Sayan? And it only works on cars with single muffle and not dual? How come your car has dual muffler then?

ahfa, sorry for late response - been away.

There IS a button and it is a gateway to heaven

System - incl. muffler and covers for new and old cutouts is for X4 35i M only.
Does not work on M40i, because 35i has one tube going into muffler - M40i has two.
Just one muffler - two tubes out of muffler on either side, of which one per side has a flap.

Was up north in Sweden skiing last week - since snow/ice dampened noise from studded tires, I could enjoy exhaust sound in full

M40i has a very nice sound - but is limited by legal requirements - Klappen is not - in Track mode.

To the OP's question- I love the look of LBB and would love to have it just because it is distinct and really shows off the unique character of the car. My wife thinks as yours does- too flashy. Also, we've had blue cars before (we have one now in fact but it's a darker blue) and it turns out, she never liked those colours either (who knew?). Initially, I wanted the Melbourne red, mainly because that's how the X4 was promoted (at least in Canada) and it's a statement colour. Nope. We've settled on Alpine White and while it's not my first choice- she's fine with having a vehicle with waaay more hp and torque than she needs so I guess I can live with the colour. I really can't complain.

Jaggnzster!!! Ur the man! Were on the same boat lol, yeah regardless of the color, i think our cars will still be distinct from other X4s all around whether its aerodynamics, sound, performance and all the colors look good no matter what. On that note, Ive seen so many m3s,m4s x5m x6m they all even went with the regular alpine white, or dark graphite black or what not, lots of people didn't pick those exotic colors as well..so in a sense i feel better ^^, again there will be pros and cons in everything we do...

anyways cheers to you and ur new ride!

I have Carbon Black. I'm terrible about keeping my car clean. At first I thought, "uh oh what did I get into"? It seemed like a dust magnet.

Then I had my car coated with CQuartz Finest. Huge difference. I literally went over a month without washing the car and someone commented on how clean it was.

The funny thing is when I bought my X4 35i last year, I really wanted a color like Long Beach Blue. The online photos of the X4 35i in Deep Sea Blue were what attracted me to the car in the first place . In person, I found Deep Sea Blue WAY too green for me, nothing like the pictures. I settled on Carbon Black and I love it a lot more than I thought I would, especially after being told by everyone and their brother about how awful owning a "black" car is. I'm not even sure I would want LBB now.

Update to my last post on this thread. We were able to sit in a Melbourne Red X4 yesterday (a 20D - they don't get the M40i in Oz) and we were both in awe of the colour. I think I know why BMW chose to advertise the original X4 in MB- it's just so vibrant and powerful and makes the car look even more athletic. I would still choose the LBB if I was the only driver but seeing the MB in person was enough to convince the wife and we have changed the order.

LBB

I had a choice of a black or LBB car. I love black because I don't drive much and I enjoy detailing and sealing my paint. I looked at the black in the shade and in our Florida sun and it was just too plain in the X4M. Remember the US version has no trim on the side except that little copper tinted gizmo on the fender and with the black window trim in just looked too plain. I love the LBB. It's almost a blend of Estoril Blue and Laguna Seca Blue. It looks very classy in the shade and stands out well in the sun. It looks good in the garage with my Imola Red 01 M Roadster and my wife's Titanium Silver 135i. With the lack of chrome these days, the plethora of black, gray and white German vehicles is just boring.
