What is hanging from under the dash
I have material hanging from some duct under the dash resting on the brake arm. BMW service manager just pushed it back in the duct. Doesn't seem right. What is that duct for?

This is just foam that blocks the slots where the clutch pedal would be and provide somewhat of a seal around the brake pedal arm. No worries, tuck it back in.

Thanks, that's what the service advisor did.
Strange, there isn't a manual available on the 2014 X3. No need for clutch pedal opening. Seems sloppy to just stick ripped up foam in there. It was interfering with the brake pedal return. Brake pedal was not coming all the way up. Dangerous, brake light on all the time and riding the brakes too. |

Your problem seems to be Factory QA of the clutch hole blanking. If the foam hadn't come down we wouldn't have this thread. |

A simple solution would be to have a knock out plug. Nothing to do if transmission is auto, simply remove knock out plug for clutch pedal. Looks bad for a premium auto maker to install shredded foam to fill a hole. The foam prevented the brake pedal full return creating a safety problem. Brake light remained on all the time. |
