Am I correct that the mother company fixed the plastic guides back in 2010 on the N20 power plant? Any high milage X3's out here that can say they are bullet proof? I am considering an M-Sport don't know which motor to go with.

BMW made a change to the timing chain components of the N20 engine about 1/2015 that was intended to improve reliability. Some earlier models of the N20 engines have been updated with the redesigned timing chain parts.

In my opinion, not enough time has elapsed to be certain whether or not the changes to the N20 timing chain components introduced in 2015 have eliminated timing chain problems that may not arise until after 50K miles.

Just had my chain replaced at 103k. Would have cost £2800 but BMW Extended Warranty agreed to cover straightaway once they'd confirmed that I had a full main dealer service history.
