Front suspension or steering play ?

Car is a 2016 X3 xdrive 2.8i M Sport w/DHP, 19" rims, all season tires.
I'm getting what feels like a little play from the left front suspension when hitting small bumps at moderate speeds 25-50 mph or so. Noticeable when hitting Botts Dots, going straight or turning. Freeway speeds feel fine. There's no real noise, just a little bit of looseness. Can't tell if it's the strut, suspension linkage or steering linkage. Happens in both comfort & sport modes. Otherwise car is fine - really nice in fact. I see a few posts about steering rack defects and noises - no noises here. In fact my wife can't even feel it & she drives it more than I do.
BMW currently has it in the shop. Mechanics noticed it too & replaced the intermediate steering link but that didn't fix it. I suggested they drive a new X3 & compare. I'm hoping this isn;t one of those things where they have the car for a long time & can't figure it out.
Anybody else have this ? Any suggestions ?
